So we made spaghetti alla vongole for dinner, and it was good.

Have noticed a lot of commercials suddenly using Christmas music. The grocery store I went to this afternoon had a fake Christmas tree up. Too early, I say!

I really don't care about the new LJ personal info page. No, it's not very attractive -- there's way too much blank white space at the top, and that's visually unappealing. And Nature abhors a vacuum, or something like that. But I don't come to LJ for the personal info page. I come here because all you amazing people are here, and you're all different, and fascinating to listen to, and it's like this humming network with something happening and folks talking and people living, every minute of every day. And I love that.

Wow, do I sound like a total dweeb. I should drink more red wine. Hee.

LOL!

No, I think it's really a Twilight icon. I saw it in [livejournal.com profile] le_fetish's last post, and just fell in love with the image -- the open hands, the apple.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for archetypal images.

I ask the important questions!

Yes! *hugs you*

It is a lovely image! That is true. But I would be surprised if you were reading the books.

*hugs back* I would offer you some of my tea! As I have no red wine. It is very smoky chai, prepared Indian-style with whole spices and loose tea (I used lapsang souchang, which is unusual). But I suspect I will drink it all, and besides, it's made with soymilk.

I think I would cry if she were reading the books.

I was half-expecting an "OMG I LOVE TWILIGHT HOW DARE YOU" sort of comment. I am relieved this is not that!

People who swoon over Edward Cullen and think Edward/Bella is a positive or healthy relationship make me worry. D: My sister's got a protective order against her husband right now for doing stuff to her that Edward has done to Bella.

:( A very good model relationship for teenage girls, withal.

But I would be surprised if you were reading the books.

I've read about the books, and even though I enjoy horror novels, these just didn't sound well-written enough to appeal to me. There was something about sparkly vampires? No thank you. I prefer for my vampires not to sparkle. If they sparkle it reminds me too much of a floor cleanser.

Your tea sounds utterly delicious! I used to drink Lady Grey (yes? is that it?) sometimes when we lived in Japan, and it was wonderful.

SPARKLY VAMPIRES WTF?

Just. NO.

Sparkly and sensitive! He won't sleep with her because he might kill her in the heat of passion with his super-strength. Also, she is 17 and he is 1283739487234 years old.

Spoiler: but then apparently he does sleep with her? Because I hear she's pregnant in the fourth book, and really into crazy rough sex (in a bad abusive way), and then the vampire baby starts to drink her blood, so they have to turn her into a vampire to save her? What.

OK THAT IS JUST WRONG.

Thankfully, I have y'all to warn me off. :)

Seriously. My roommate and I, independently reading the book because everyone around us was swooning, got to the same line about five pages in and slammed the thing shut. Ugh.

I highly recommend Gail Collin's editorial in the NY Times about it.

OMG NO!!!

Vampire baby???!!? Like ... unborn undead? Just ... EEEEK RUN AWAY!

And I too had heard something about sparkly vampires, and ... what, like Vampire Disco Barbie? Or My Little Vampire? Wrong, wrong, wrong.

SPOILER:

They get married. He won't have sex with her until they get married...and they don't use protection because he's a vampire and she's not and they don't think she can get pregnant. Oh kids.

Because marriage takes away super-strength? What?

Marriage is totally magical and fixes everything.

Alas, no. But wouldn't that be super sparkly and special if it did? The divorce rate would be 0% :D

More spoilers:

Part of the reason he doesn't have sex with her, is because he's afraid he's going to lose control and DRINK HER BLOOD instead. Also crush her. But, his love conquers all and he has super-controlled sex and bites pillows instead and destroys the bed in his passion. Afterward, he refuses to have sex with her while she's still human because she's covered in bruises and he's upset that he hurt her.

It's all very weird. I don't know why I read and enjoyed these books because they are so very, very wrong. ;)

But Nightdog, he is the dreamiest!

Oy.

It is utterly delicious! Although I did not have fresh ginger, I had whole cinnamon and cardamom and star anise, and I used brown sugar, and I swear, lapsang souchang is just so alluring somehow. Mmm, smoky. I am fond of Lady Grey, but I love bergamot, so I go for Earl Grey or Earl Greyer most of the time.

The author's said she didn't do any vampire research beyond pop culture osmosis, so if you swap out "vampire" for, oh, "minor demon bound to human form," it works just as well and is easier on the brain.

There's a serious tea shop a short walk away from here - and you would not believe how fantastic it smells in there - and I really should invest in some of their stuff before it gets really cold outside.
