Hot and tedious, god I am sick of this fucking summer weather. Tired and out of sorts to begin with from staying up late last night watching the Oklahoma/UTEP game. Which the Miners could have WON, if their kicker had been able to make EVEN ONE FIELD GOAL, FFS. THE SOONERS. THEY COULD'VE BEATEN THE SOONERS. JFC. God, I wanted to throw something at the TV.

Anyway. Also watched the new Doctor Who and enjoyed it -- very much liked Oswin and the guy who'd forgotten he was dead.

Here, have some links.

Western scrub jays observed to hold 'funerals' for their dead. The jays then gathered around the dead body, forming large cacophonous aggregations. The calls they made, known as "zeeps", "scolds" and "zeep-scolds", encouraged new jays to attend to the dead.

Child murder victim hidden in Roman barracks? The skeletal remains of the child were discovered in 2010 buried in a shallow pit in the corner of a barracks. At first archaeologists thought the remains might have belonged to a dog, but when experts examined the bones they discovered they belonged to a human child.

Artist who lives in Provence, does a small painting a day. Nice, simple stuff, especially the still lives. Still lifes? Eh.

Hello! The weather is lovely today here. I had thought of taking a little road trip this weekend but instead I think I'll be working tomorrow.
I'm also struggling with reading Justine, and not just because of the horrible subject matter. It's the same thing over and over again, WE GET IT DE SADE. Blech!

Based on my experience, NO. Or if you do just stick to the first few chapters because the rest of the novel is the same thing.

I saw that scrub jay article independently. Remarkable, isn't it? Thank you for pointing out the Roman piece of news, sad as the underlying tale must be it's still fascinating.

The Grey Jays will do more than come close enough to touch. They've stripped windshield wipers off cars, and pulled lining from windows and sunroofs in their quest to obtain delicious human foodstuffs. They'll also steal anything left unattended on a table, and even enter buildings through open windows to do so. Then again, leaving windows wide open in bear country is never a good idea. I know of one householder who lost a pie that way, and another who had frying pork chops taken right off the stove. In that situation it is best not to argue.

I just read an insightful article on Cloud-Based Access Control and it really opened my eyes to the benefits of moving to a cloud-based system. The flexibility and real-time monitoring capabilities are exactly what modern businesses need to enhance their security infrastructure. Cloud-Based Access Control not only simplifies the management of access permissions but also provides scalable solutions that can grow with your business. I'm considering upgrading our current system to take advantage of these features and improve overall security.
