Sunny and warm, should get up to 101 today (38.3 degrees Celsius) although we are supposed to have a BIG break in the weather by Sunday. I cannot begin to say how welcome this will be.

Got one of these put in yesterday, except mine looks like this. Now I am one with the Borg. Except that, y'know, a Borg probably wouldn't feel like it had been kicked in the shoulder by a mule. Lucky for me I have the Good Drugs.

I have to say, though, that this was a much more positive experience than my lumpectomy (this was the second procedure under general anesthesia). It was in a different environment (a hospital instead of a day surgery center), and the nurses and doctors were way more congenial and less rushed. Also, the anesthesiologist must have done something differently, because waking up was more like ... well, waking up. From a natural sleep. It was all very interesting, and I sincerely hope none of you ever have to experience it. ♥

Still reading Jamrach's Menagerie, and it's very good. Also, I know I owe some of you comments and emails, and I'm so sorry I haven't gotten to that. Things have been kind of discombobulated lately. :-)

And now for something completely different: the legal tussle over who will own a Gypsy fortune-telling machine from 1906.

Did you get a choice of colour? (I think that would be nice. It's wretched that people have to go through this sort of thing, at least if there are different colours they can have some sort of choice, yes?) It's also good that you had a more positive experience with the insertion. I understand the things are often busy and very routine for medical personnel, but the people they are treating are people, and suffering, and deserve to be treated just as well as possible (or else why did they go into one of the "caring" professions, yes?).

I've actually passed Virginia City, but didn't stop to visit it. Hopefully the machine ends up where the public can enjoy it, and not stashed away in some private horde.

Heh. Well, there might not have been a choice. Or perhaps people would be disturbed by being offered one? But if you have to wear the bloody thing, then, for example, it would be nice to have a colour that you like. (It's the only way -- aside from doing a good job of inserting and removing it -- that I can think of making the experience a little less impersonal for the patient. It could also classify as "an unnecessary waste of funds".)

I looked at where they place that thing and all I can think is, "My bra strap would hit that! OWWWW!"
