So I just watched the interview with the writers, Peter Blake and Katherine Lingenfelter.

It wasn't a hallucination. House really did crash his car into Cuddy's dining room. Nobody mentioned Vicodin, brain tumors, or any other possible cause other than pent-up rage.

The interview is here. It's the second one down.

gigantic fandom shitstorm that's about to take place

Will it really be a shitstorm? Or will people just throw up their hands and fade away?

I have to try to get my distance back now, I think. Been reading too much stuff and it's like ... I went from liking the episode pretty well, up until the end when it was WTF SHOCK HUH?, and now ... I'm kind of grieving that they really have apparently destroyed House's character on the show. On purpose. And that's a character I loved.

Obviously I need to take a breath and do something else for a while. I'll get over it faster that way.

BTW, did they specifically say House wasn't having any kind of medical issues or delusions, here? Or did they just not mention it at all? Because there's a good extent to which the "processing" and the release of TEH RAEG could in fact be internal; and it would still explain that weirdness at the end, with it all Technicolor-dreamy; and the sudden day/night shift.

Someone else brought up the detail that the beach had been full of life/people and then suddenly *poof* they were all gone. I don't know. I think I'm just going to try to forget the whole thing until we see how it shakes out in the fall.

Even Barbara Barnett is saying, in essence, "This doesn't add up as being fully real and not at least partly in House's mind."

Oh, also, weren't TPTB telling us the season finale wouldn't be a cliffhanger? Shit, I don't see how it could possibly get more cliffy than this.

I'm going to delude myself that there is something going on they can't tell us about. Until I find out otherwise, anyway. Because if this is all real and there are no mitigating factors, I'm too heartbroken.

ETA that if they weren't planning for there to be something else going on here, I wonder if the reaction they're getting from fans and critics will make them retcon something in.

I'm wondering that also.

That's my worst fear about this, that they'll say "uh oh" and start season 8 by saying "oh no, silly us, we forgot to tell you that House was stoned on Vicodin and thought he was driving his car into Cuddy's garage! And he has a tumour in his brain! And Bobby's in the show and Pam was dreaming! And anyway, Cuddy deserved it for daring to date someone else!".
