Sort of a topsy-turvy morning -- Mr. Nightdog had a business call at 7:30, and I fell back to sleep, then he woke me up when he left ... bzuh.

Mostly sunny and warm, supposed to be about 98 today and 100 tomorrow before settling back down and cooling off again. This morning there were robins, wrens, cardinals and chickadees in the backyard, along with someone new -- a hummingbird! Couldn't tell what kind it was; at first I thought it was a baby wren but then I saw its beak. It seemed to have a pretty distinctive white stripe down its back.

Have to go to grocery store today. All for now.

hello!

How exciting, with new visitors! It's gray and humid here, and I'm doing my best to stave off stir-craziness. Although it might not be working.

Off to feed Z her lunch!

Heh! Are you ready for school to start again, just to get out of the house? Are there any museums nearby you could take Z to, or would that be Asking For Trouble?

;-)

Yes, I am very ready for school to start again, not so much because it gets me out of the house (although that's great, too), but because I feel like I need a certain amount of time for being in my own head every day, and if I don't get that, I get irritable.

Sometimes Z is much more clingy than others, and when she's clingy, it's impossible to focus my attention on anything else--like this morning, she clings to my legs and tries to squeeze between my knees and the cupboard when I'm trying to wash dishes (a task which really doesn't take that long, but it's phenomenally frustrating when she won't go play on her own for a bit!). At least she usually brings us books when she wants attention, because she knows we'll stop and read with her. The last couple days her new thing is finding little bits of dirt and putting them in her mouth, then coming over and sticking out her tongue so we can see that she's eating something icky, and when we try to retrieve it, she giggles and runs. She loves the chasing. HEE--so I'm trying to chase her more often without the eating-dirt part.

ANYWAY. This is really a long-winded little rant, and a verbose way of saying that we're going to take her to the big-city zoo tomorrow (the Mr. took vacation, and one of my work-friends is coming, too), so that will be fun.

I think Z and Nadja must be related: they definitely have the same habits! :)

Oooooh, hummingbirds! Love 'em. Maybe I can set up a feeder here in spring and see if any arrive.

Slept poorly last night due to Daybed of Torture, but the good news is that tonight I'll have my brand new lush skooshy bed!!! YAY!! Not that I've been counting down the days or anything.

Need coffee, absolutely. Gah.

The hummingbirds are so cute, but we hardly ever see them around here.

And yay for the new bed! New beds are wonderful.

I'm about to head out the door to take care of more errands (read: buying stuff) because deciding what to put on this bed -- you know, other than my tired body -- is proving quite difficult. And potentially very expensive, which of course is Not Good.

Also, LOVE my new paint color up here, even though it's barelly a color, because it's so much brighter and more welcoming than the dirty-sock-white primer. Except I ran out before I finished the stairwell and the area directly above said stairwell, so I must buy a third gallon of paint today.

Yay new bed!! Is it a queen size? Double? Triple? :)

I have had good luck at Bed Bath & Beyond for sheet sets--but then we really splurged on our mattress set when we bought this new bed (it was so easy to spend money during that time when we were refurbishing the house), and we have an 18-inch pillowtop mattress that is very picky about sheet sets, so I found some nice 400-thread-count sheets with the sooper-deep pockets for...$80? I think? Which isn't bad for the sooper-deep pocket sheet sets.

It's a queen. I was going to get a full size to save a little space and money, but then I learned that basically nobody buys full size beds these days. As a result, it's hard to get nice full-size linens. It's also hard to find a decent full size headboard, and while I don't have room for a headboard now, I know I'll want one when I move to my next place.

I decided to spend the extra money and make my life easier for years to come.

And this thing is a Sealy, a very nice high-end mattress, all wonderfully springy with a thick pillow top. I got it for about $580 total, with the box spring, because I went to a place that sells slight scratch/dent items and showroom samples. Otherwise I'd be looking at over $1000 for it.

Yay, hummingbirds! They're really beautiful.

BTW, I has baby wrens! My birdhouse has been inhabited by a wren for a while now, and I can hear lots of chirping from within even when she's sitting perched outside, so there must be babies. (I don't want to disturb them by trying to look inside the house.) I feel very maternal. :)

Hee! I adore our wrens! How wonderful to have babies like that!

I'll bet they're tiny. Heh.

I bet seeing all those birds in your yard at once was an amazing sight! I'd loved to have seen it with my own eyes.

Like usual, I got on here late. Just have not wanted to expose the ole noggin to my PC as much. But then I end up missing erryboddy and getting back on here, anyway. hee

Well, if I'm up to it, I'll check in earlier tomorrow.
