This appears to be a brand new interview with Hugh Laurie, by Robert Crampton of Times Online.

No spoilers for the show that I saw, although the interview does seem to confirm he's signed for seven years. Plus he quotes Marcus Aurelius. *g*

I saw that and was impressed by the quote. HL can say he's stupid all day long, but there's a tremendous intelligence at work there.

that's quite an expression he has in the photo that accompanies it, but I guess him comparing an interview to placing one's testicles on a chopping board would explain the expression!

*nods*

He sounded like he was on guard, especially at the beginning of the interview (the quote about Kenneth Branagh was awful but I did laugh at it) -- he really does sound like a well-spoken, very intelligent guy, very self-deprecating with a quick wit and lots of stories. One of those people who would be on my shortlist of perfect dinner guests.

Heh!

What sensible being doesn't? ;) (I have about three different translations of the Meditations kicking about, agree with that quote a great deal myself.)

...That comment about the testicles and the chopping block didn't give you any... ideas, did it?

LOL!

No, it didn't. James and Gregorius are safe!

Just checking. :D (Actually, I found myself agreeing with HL a great deal in regards to his views on life, which was a surprise to me. Not that I pay any real attention to celebrities generally, but usually when they talk about their world views they're completely different from my own. Not to imply this is a surprise, or a bad thing, but it's just strange to hear my own perspective somewhat echoed back from such a source.)

Excellent interview! Thanks for linking to it. I wish RSL could interview even half as well.

It was interesting that his family is finally thinking of moving over.

Thanks for the link! The picture is interesting, because Laurie is not a particularly "handsome" guy. He looks handsome in House because of the character -- beat-up, stubbly and dissolute, with those bright blue eyes -- but shaved and glum, he's got a rather silly face.

I had to LOL at Yes, I spoke to my shrink yesterday on the phone in LA – you have to have one before they let you in. Though I do think, he and Eeyore must have been separated at birth...
