Labor Day Monday
Sep. 6th, 2010 12:05 pmMostly sunny and warm -- 87 degrees (30.6 Celsius), with a 60% chance of rain tomorrow, coming up from the south from Tropical Storm Hermine. Let the dog out last night around midnight and there was a ghost-pale gecko on the screen door.
More housekeeping in order, in real life and online. In the meantime, here's a story from the Guardian on the first night of the Blitz, seventy years ago tomorrow. The description of the pepper, tea, and sugar fires on the docks is particularly interesting. From the article: "A grain warehouse … brings forth banks of black flies, rats in hundreds and the residue of burnt wheat, a sticky mess that pulls your boots off."
So. Onwards. :-)
