Mostly sunny and warm -- 87 degrees (30.6 Celsius), with a 60% chance of rain tomorrow, coming up from the south from Tropical Storm Hermine. Let the dog out last night around midnight and there was a ghost-pale gecko on the screen door.

The description of the pepper, tea, and sugar fires on the docks is particularly interesting. From the article: "A grain warehouse … brings forth banks of black flies, rats in hundreds and the residue of burnt wheat, a sticky mess that pulls your boots off."
