Sunny and warm -- 89 degrees (31.7 Celsius). Watched the last 30 or so minutes of the England/Germany World Cup game ... ouch. The columnist covering the action for The Guardian had a pretty funny observation at the beginning of the game:

The anthems are played. First Germany's. Then a song about God saving the head of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. That's not fair! Germany have had two. Don't England get a turn? The red-clad English players take it well, though, shaking hands along the line with their counterparts in white shirts and black shorts. The wait is over. We're about to get going ...

Heh. Laundry, other stuff today.

Interesting article in the NY Times about the development of new portable technologies for reading and being online. The bit about the effort at Arizona State University to create a workable, flexible computer screen caught my eye -- it's a thin piece of what looks like plastic, with handholds at either end, so you can roll it up and carry it around and then roll it out when you want to read or surf the Web.

And I couldn't help but think ... my God, we've reinvented the scroll.
