Long story short

I have pneumonia.

The treatment is levofloxacin; I've taken it at least once before (maybe twice). I remember it gave me weird dreams, so ... at least I've got that going for me?

I kept thinking it would go away on its own! It's just a little cough, right? JUST A LITTLE COUGH?

Oh my god. The last time I was this fatigued, I was having chemo. I genuinely thought there was a 50/50 possibility this could be Something Else. But they did a chest X-ray, so.

Petting the dog does help! It does not help when she climbs in my lap and CRUSHES MY THORAX.

Isn't Chernobyl amazing? "We need a new phone." Holy shit, that episode was hard to watch.

But! I'm glad it is what it is (i.e., not something worse), and that the meds I take should will KILL IT DED. And I will feel better.

Oh, and it was so cool looking at my own chest X-ray yesterday. Our ribs are actually hauntingly beautiful.

My goodness you too? I know of multiple people who have had it this year, my boss included. He ended up in hospital -- they thought he was having a heart attack. :( I am very sorry to hear you're so ill, but relieved it's not something even more serious.

Same here: lots of pneumonia going around. Several church members have had it, and they were all elderly folks who also became dehydrated and seriously ill. Dehydration kills in the elderly and they wound up spending a long time getting skilled nursing to recover.

And echoing what Corgigirl said -- I've had multiple people, online and IRL, tell me they or someone they know has had bronchitis, pneumonia, etc. It's like there's this SECRET EPIDEMIC of upper respiratory infections sweeping the world. O_o

What is weird to me is that a couple of people I know of having pneumonia this spring do not go out in public much. How did they get a community acquired infection at home?

I mean, I was developing a light, persistent cough at the end of March. I had one dr. appointment in April (the cardiologist). Maybe it was there? My cardiologist's other patients all seem to be 109-year-olds with walkers and oxygen.

I really don't go out that much.

Yeah, I thought of you. My favorite aunt lived to be 94 and she was very particular about washing her hands as soon as she returned home from shopping or an outing. It's because of her that I have a canister of wet wipes in the car for after using a bank touchscreen or a gas pump.

God, yes, I always wash my hands after being out. There's just so much nasty out there. Soap and water is such a relief after being out and about.
