1) Dreamed last night that a snake turned into a child. In the dream I had been asked by my Dream BFF (who was someone I used to work with, decades ago) to watch her daughter for the day or the afternoon or whatever. So we met in a parking garage, and she laid a small snake (like the size of a harmless little garter snake) on the concrete floor (this all felt like an ordinary occurrence in the dream), and when I picked it up the snake transformed into a laughing, squirming toddler in my arms. My friend was in a hurry, so in the dream it was BFF, snake, toddler, boom boom boom. I also knew in the dream that I had done this many times before, and I was happy to do it (even though in Real Life I am definitely not a Kids Person). So. That was that.

2) Stayed up way too late last night reading Marina and Sergey Dyachenko's Vita Nostra, and holy shit, kittens, this is one creepy and fascinating tale.

3) Beautiful spring weather today. I should plant the basil, cilantro, and bee balm seeds I've bought, but for some reason it's very hard to get motivated. :-P

I could send you some pics of my TEEENSY LITTLE SEEDLINGS if that would help with the motivation thing.

Was the parking garage underground? The snake -> child thing is very "new things arising from chthonic sources" and adding in an underground setting would make it even more so. It's actually a great metaphor for creativity generally.

It definitely does sound like a "Big Dream". :) The symbolism is actually very clear from my perspective. You were underground/in the underworld (the source of the unconscious, and of dreams and inspiration), where you met a woman (Muse? Goddess? It doesn't matter that she was wearing the face of someone you once knew, something about her is symbolically important) of power. What's important is that in your dream she was your beloved friend -- close, important, and someone you have a relationship with like a bard does their Awen). She gave you her offspring -- a snake is an underworld symbol, but also a symbol of transformation because of how they shed their skins. And in your hands it transformed into something of the Middle world (our world), a bright spark of becoming that would grow into something greater. Sounds to me like a marvelous retelling in dream imagery of the creative process of writing (in your case, though it could equally be musical or other artistic creation).

... that is really cool.

I feel as if I should have something more intelligent to say about it, but at the moment all I can think of is: wow. How cool. And thank you. I don’t know why but I feel like I needed to read this.

Joseph Campbell's stuff should be approached with care because antisemitism and misogyny aside his scholarship (particularly when it comes to interpreting Sanskrit) was questionable at best. That said, his work does throw interesting illumination on a lot of things.

LOL. The fact that Christianity is essentially an apocalyptic sect of Judaism centred around a common mythical dying and resurrected god figure does not sit well with some people.
