nightdog_barks: Illustration of a young girl wearing a cat mask bandit-style (Mask Girl)

Ye gods, what a profoundly dreary day. Cold and damp and grey, with a fine, thin mist drizzing the air. It's supposed to stay above freezing tonight, so I pulled the towels off the deck plants. Then I came back inside and turned the heat up.

I saw this on [personal profile] sholio's DW the other day and thought it was interesting -- it's a Trope Sorting Meme, and it made me laugh (in recognition) when I saw my results. Obvious attractions are obvious ...

Yeah, I don't know why some of these, like "Hogwarts AU" and "Pride and Prejudice AU" didn't come out dead last, because I rejected them every time. Color me very unsurprised for what tied as the first three. :D

Dreamed last night that I had bought a necklace of some kind from the David Morgan store in Bothell, Washington (while I have been to Washington state, I've never been to Bothell). I was standing in the parking lot, trying to put it on, but I was having trouble fastening the clasp so I asked Mister Nightdog_barks to help me. There were three or four bald eagles nearby (like perching on the roofs of low buildings) watching. A young woman -- a clerk -- came out of the David Morgan store and started talking to me, but I was having trouble understanding her. Eventually I realized she wanted to know if I wanted to purchase an insurance policy for the necklace. I was trying to tell her "no" and still having trouble understanding her when the dream simply trailed off and ended, as dreams do. OK then, brain.

ahahaha I just completed it, and it's surprisingly accurate.

Clearly those bald eagles were there to steal your necklace if you didn't purchase the insurance... :-D

The eagles were there to make sure the prophecy was fulfilled. Once the necklace was on, then the adventures could start.

I took the Trope Sorting Meme, and I really, really like "(Enemies to) Friends to Lovers" and any and all types of "Unrequited Pining." Guess how my husband and I got together? You'll probably get it in one.

I can't understand exactly how the Trope sorter works. Are the 1's your favorite and the higher the number, the least you like it? Because the one I did bore no resemblance to what I like reading it either way.

Unfortunately when I tried doing the other one, it often skipped past categories; when I clicked, one would flash and the next would stay, so I know my answers weren't going to be accurate.

Interesting! I certainly would have predicted several supernatural AUs and scenarios high up on your list, but not fairytale/mythology in particular. Did you choose based more on writing or more on reading preferences or on both equally? Because as I just mentioned over on Topaz' post, I'm thinking these two don't always have to be the same. Amused by your result for dead last. Who'd have thought. :-D

Heh, I took the shorter one from the your link and it's actually a wholly different batch of tropes (some of which had me scratching my head). Results, just to see all the available ones:

1 Sleepovers/Stuck In A Tent Together/Bed Sharing
1 Found Family
1 Platonic Cuddling/Hand-Holding/Skinship
4 Mentor Fic
5 Historical AU
6 Spies/Double Agents/Secret Identity
7 Casefic
8 Childhood Friends Reunited
9 Accidental Pet Acquisition
10 Possession/Mental Connection
11 Magical Realism (e.g. animal transformation, woke up a different sex, bodyswap, age regression...)
12 Always a Different Sex
13 Time Travel
14 Antagonist Saves Hero ('nobody is allowed to kill you but me'/'I still need you around for my grand plan')
15 Political Intrigue
16 Modern AU
16 Mythological Creatures
16 Bonding Through Adversity
16 Training Montage Fic
20 Slowly Turning Evil/Heel Turn
20 Self-Insert
22 Friends/Siblings to Enemies
23 Antagonist Turned Weird Uncle/Antihero/Reluctant Part of the Hero Group
24 The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Friend
25 Reincarnation

In other words, this has a lot more very specific tropes and is missing broader ones, and a lot of ones I like, starting with H/C for example, or even Friends to Lovers. Plus, the definition of "magical realism" is exceptionally broad IMO. And there's still no Space AU available! I'm doing the longer one at the moment (8% sorted at question number 18) and I'm side-eyeing some of the things listed as tropes, which read more like short plot summaries...

ETA: Oh, I just saw, it's NON-ROMANTIC trope sorter. (It's right there in the title, self.) Well. Okay then. That obviously kills quite few popular ones.
