That bright object in the sky

The SUN is shining, for the first time in DAYS. Now if only the humidity were a little lower ...
Got out yesterday and went to Target to pick up an order Mister Nightdog_barks had placed online. The parking lot and store was full of frazzled moms with little kids in tow (school is about to start here), but happily for me the pick-up counter was clear and I was in and out in about 10 minutes.
Went on to Sprouts, where I decided to get 98 cents worth of chili-mango slices to try. These are basically dried, candied mango slices, rolled in chili powder and touched with a hint of lemon. Honestly, I couldn't detect any lemon, but I loved the combination of spicy/sweet and will definitely buy more. (I'd read about folks eating fresh mango with chili powder in the books of Luis Alberto Urrea and was intrigued by the idea.)
Last stop was the post office. There was a flock of Canada geese on both sides of the street, and I had to laugh as one of the geese stopped traffic by ambling across the road -- slowly, with that arrogant "Fuck you, I'm a goose" style. :D
So that was my day yesterday. Still working my way through Grant. I'm up to the fall of Vicksburg.

Date: 2018-08-16 02:43 pm (UTC)Ahahahaha truth. Canada geese are a special brand of WTF. Z's school has a large Canada goose population. Every spring, the school issues a "Goose Watch" to students, faculty and staff. It tracks all the nesting locations on campus for everyone to avoid. Seriously, these are their official "Goose Tips":
1. If a goose acts aggressively, back away slowly and calmly.
2. When passing geese, keep your chest and face pointed towards them. Maintain direct eye contact.
3. Be neutral. Do not show fear or act in a hostile manner.
We see (and hear) them a lot in the city, too, but luckily they have the good sense to stay near the river.
