Just last night I started reading The Ends of the World: Volcanic Apocalypses, Lethal Oceans, and Our Quest to Understand Earth's Past Mass Extinctions, by Peter Brannen. Little did I know then how apropos it might be to today. HA.

HAHAHA

HA HA

Sigh.

The day after the Republican party announced its nominee for the 2016 election, I finally went ahead and listened to the soundtrack to Sondheim's Assassins. It helped the way an ice-cold shower helps on a hot day.

Might be time for another listen.

I had a hard time understanding all the whys of the situation that summer, and listening to it - especially "Another National Anthem" - somehow put it into a context and framework I could fit inside my head.

It's not terrible to want to outlast your enemies.

Reading the comments I think we are thinking of different things. You are referring to US politics, yes? I was thinking of the two volcanic eruptions which have occurred in the Galapagos in the last two weeks (Cumbre on Fernandina eleven days ago, and Sierra Negra on Isabela today). Both are :(, but latter are at least not attributable to human fuckery.

I thought so initially from the tone, and then thought "Maybe not?". So I was correct the first time! While the Hawaii volcano is a perilous thing for people the eruptions in Galapagos could spell the end of fragile species unique to each island.

I just read that book this weekend! I thought it was terrific, by which I mean terrifying.
And yes the Supreme Court news today is terrifying too. I'm very worried about it happening in my province, where the probable future premier is a militant forced birther.

When they finally break thru the blue barrier that surrounds my town, can I come live with you? I am no longer able to breed, but I can cook and can tell funny stories.

Who am I kidding? Someone like me is going to end up in a re-education camp in Georgia.
