Saw this on Twitter today -- one of the newest robot dog creations from Boston Dynamics.

On the one hand, I am awfully proud of this. I mean, human beings did this. For glorified lemurs, we're pretty darn smart. On the other hand ... holy shit. O_o

Technology is both evil and good. It may well be our doom but for now we can enjoy its benefits. :D

The progress is amazing. I remember when inventors were first experimenting with walking robots and they fell over constantly even without obstacles and we all felt sort of smug that something as simple as keeping your balance was beyond a robot. And now...

If I trusted humans more, I would be 100% in favor of this. Yay, robot dogs! The future is now! But... part of me can't help but think, okay so how close are we to the government strapping weapons on these things? It's very chilling.

Very close. Military use first, civilian use second. I know that isn't true of all technologies but I'm inclined to be cynical. Law enforcement could find all sorts of uses for these robots.
