So here is a live bird-feeder cam from the Sabal Palm Sanctuary, which is near Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. So far I've seen titmice, mourning doves, and green jays. The jays are really striking -- blue heads, a black "necklace," and long green bodies.

Ha, first it was all doves being the top dogs and then hey, upheaval, everyone flying away .... and then three green jays out of nowhere. What secret plan was executed off camera I wonder. Anyway, yes, the green jays are really beautiful and striking, such brilliant and shining colours. Love seeing them in flight, too.

Canadian Geographic had a nation-wide vote to determine Canada's national bird. Yesterday they announced the winner was the gray jay.
