Perhaps you were conflating her with Joni Mitchell? I don't pay much attention to the personal lives of celebrities, so I had not idea, but my local radio station was talking about where Ms. Mitchell was born. I know the place well, frequently having traveled through it for work. It's one of those "Wait, WHAT?" moments because with the world being as large as it is, and a certain place small, it is hard to credit that someone famous could be from there just based on odds.
Edited to add: the second-to-last time I drove through the town where Joni Mitchell was born I was stuck waiting in traffic because the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were out doing a ceremonial parade on horseback, with different units taking part in a ritualised competition. Very Canadian!
And that's funny, because I was thinking of Joni Mitchell, but my brain said "No, she was born in California!" And I don't know how that happened, but for some reason Joni Mitchell = California was just stuck in my mind. :D
It is a local-ish pun, where people will say "I am driving down to LA to visit my parents this weekend." which everyone here understands as "Lethbridge Alberta". Lethbridge is a nice enough little city, but it no way resembles Los Angeles, particularly in winter. Ergo Canadian ideas of funny.
