That blue and green yarn thing is a long rope-type toy with a tennis ball on one end. I tied the Hol-ee Roller toy (honest, that's what they're called) on the other end.

Also, here are the things we saw on our walk tonight, in the order we saw them:

1) A snail. One of those tiny flat round ones.
2) A cockroach. Great for chasing until they disappear in the grass.
3) A small garter snake. Interesting until they're not.
4) A KITTYCAT OMG OMG WHAT IS IT CAN I CHASE IT???!!?
5) A BUNNYRABBIT OMG OMG LOOK IT'S GETTING AWAY CAN I CHASE IT???!!?
6) A little bunnyrabbit. I saw it, she didn't. It was obviously a youngster, sitting very still.
7) Multiple dead leaves (WHAT IS IT OH)
8) Multiple slugs (WHAT IS OH NEVER MIND)

Every walk is something new under the moon. :D

Layla is looking wonderful!

That series of Things-Experienced-When-Walking-The-Dog is part of why I like it so much. I am happy to hear you and Layla are enjoying it as well. :)

I forgot to mention that last night she also saw a cobweb, on a little arching bridge over a culvert. She stared at it intently for at least 30 seconds (an eternity in dog-time), then backed away from it. She wanted NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS WEIRD THING.

That is a normal sensible canine reaction, but you might also be dealing with a fear period. Hopefully this time will continue to be filled with positive experiences for her.

That's very possible. The other day she was suspicious of a wood shaving on the deck, and this morning she was barking at a blue jay feather.
