"It's a screwdriver, what are you going to do, assemble a cabinet at them?" Heeeee. "We are confusing the polarity!" :D

Fun! All in all, I think I'm at one third awesome, one third annoyed, and one third undecided. :P The Doctor snarking at himself is definitely awesome, and John Hurt is obviously a pro at that. So the War Doctor is clearly the Doctor (anything else I would not have liked) which scrambles all the numbers, oops. I think Tom Baker was Matt Smith's favourite Doctor? I seem to remember reading something like that, so that's probably why it was him, lovely. And I loved the Capaldi cameo!

IMO the War Doctor definitely regenerated into Nine there (Chris Eccleston), I think I saw a glimpse of his face before they cut out. Which technically makes Capaldi Thirteen - as evidenced by the fact that his cameo was introduced like that - but I think Nine, Ten, and Eleven will probably keep their names because otherwise that's going to be One Big Confusion. Let's just call John Hurt Hurt!Doctor? Which doesn't have a double meaning at all now. (Moffat's previous argument that hey, he doesn't call himself the Doctor, he is the Warrior and so he doesn't count in the numbering, is null and void now, seeing how the story unfolded and concluded.)

As I said, I'm not sure, after I wrote this comment I thought that maybe Matt's favourite was Troughton after all? I don't remember for sure. (ETA: I just googled, and yes, it was Troughton, so ignore what I said before.) In any case, your reason makes sense, too. But speaking of older Doctors, did you see The Five(ish) Doctor Reboot as well? That was fun, even for me who hasn't seen much of Old!Who, which means that quite a few of the cameos went over my head.

"Am I having a midlife crisis?" "It's an instrument of science, not a waterpistol!" He could have gone on like that for a while, I wouldn't have minded. :D But the really lovely thing is that actually, as Clara points out, he is so much younger, and then tells himself that he has to grow up when it comes to dealing with the Time War. As Eight did, too.
