I told Mister Nightdog that Finch has this whole Pygmalion thing going on with Shaw, that he's trying to tame and re-mold her but she won't be tamed. And I was delighted to see the writers use a classic "Chekhov's Gun" trope. Carter was a BADASS; I half-expected the weasel rookie to call her an uppity bitch, because it seemed clear that's where he was going along with his casual misogynism.
Also! Harold feeding Bear a cookie! Shaw being SO UTTERLY DISGUSTED that she can't just shoot people WHO OBVIOUSLY NEED SHOOTING. She's just there for the dog! Shaw being THOROUGHLY EXASPERATED by the kid's questions! Finch ripping apart the old pay phone! Shaw wrapping up her arm WITH DUCT TAPE.
I have to say I really, really love the strong women on this show. And that includes Root.
I am only half-paying attention to Agents of SHIELD. The stories ... IDK, they're just not that engaging to me, and while I like Agent Coulson, it feels like Clark Gregg is underplaying him to the point of ... sleepwalking.
Started reading (of all things) a biography of Charles Manson. Yes, I know. But so far it's really good. He had a pretty traumatic childhood (not that that excuses anything). It's by someone named Jeff Guinn -- here it is on Amazon. Also! My copy of Donna Tartt's new novel, The Goldfinch, came today. :D

Also, Sarah Shahi is just amazing. She can play such a badass role and yet have such precise comedic timing. I am in awe.
