Another Monday

Today was bread day -- we baked two lovely loaves, a mix of whole wheat and all-purpose white, along with 10-grain cereal, sunflower seeds, and honey.

Read Joe Hill's 20th Century Ghosts, which I recommend wholeheartedly to anyone interested in GENUINELY SCARY STORIES. Holy crap, some of these stories are just terrifying. I loved it.

Watched Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless the other night. I'd never seen it and thought I should. I liked it -- good god, Jean-Paul Belmondo was so young and tough, and Jean Seberg was so beautiful. Still, when it ended, I was kind of like "Well, okay." So now I've seen it. *g*

I'm still working on Alaska II. :D

Greetings from Orlando International Airport, where food is hard to come by but wi-fi is easy. The place seems to pretty much shut down at 9 p.m., with the remaining signs of life ending at 10. Seems weird to me, but whatever. I'm here! And I need to get out of this sweater before I die of heat stroke.

Hello! We're enjoying sunny warm weather here, made all the more sweet by the knowledge that it's snowing in the east.
I'm reading Lawrence Hill's 'The Book of Negroes' right now, as the library is bringing in the author to talk about the book next week. I've read 'Any Known Blood' but not this one. So far it's terrific.

Heh, it looks like that book got retitled for the U.S. market -- it's Someone Knows My Name on Amazon. *g* It DOES sound really good! I'm going to put it on my to-read list.

I'm reading a biography of Charles Manson, by Jeff Guinn -- Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson. I know, super creepy but wow is it interesting.

Your bread sounds perfect, especially as it's cold and rainy here. It was my first morning this year in the low 30s and I am unhappy.

I really like Joe Hill but sometimes…I don't know how to explain it. He's very male, yes? Sometimes his perspective overwhelms the story for me and I need a break.

Heh, I don't think it will be in the low 30s here until sometime in November.

That's an interesting observation about Joe Hill! I hadn't particularly noticed it, but I do also have his novel Horns, so I'll read more carefully there. :D
