Date: 2013-05-06 04:27 am (UTC)The thing I didn't catch was when one of the CBC announcers was talking about his dad, and she said something about how Pageau's dad was born in Montreal and cheered for the Habs forever, until mumble mumble mumble Shaw mumble mumble and then he cheered for everyone EXCEPT the Habs. And I was like wat? So I have no idea how Pageau's dad came to hate the Habs.

Date: 2013-05-06 05:07 pm (UTC)Thanks for clearing that up, Taiga! Heh, I once had a plotbunny/WIP where Wilson had played a little ice hockey at McGill, because one of his roommates had an uncle or a cousin or something who was a famous Habs player. He (Wilson) kept it a secret from his parents. *g*

and
2. going up flying, going home, which I will simply c/p my rec for:
(explicit, 43,000 words, Crosby/Toews) by antumbral - 2010 Winter Olympics fic about Team Canada. This is the fic that when I read it I thought, man, this is it, the ultimate hockey fic, the one that no matter if you've never watched a game or even know who any of these people are, you will love this story, and it will make you want to love the game. Some time has passed and perhaps I'm not as star struck as I was when I first read it, but I still think it's a breathtaking story, about Sidney Crosby, with the weight of an entire nation's hopes on his shoulders, during the two near-ethereal weeks of the Vancouver Olympics. The prose is gorgeous, and the intricate, action-packed detail in which the games were written had me on the edge of my seat, but most of all it was the characterization of Sidney and Toews and the - unique atmosphere of the Olympics, I guess, that did it for me. And Crosby/Tazer, oh man. I know you're probably thinking they would win awards for Most Intensest Relationship but really it was actually kind of relaxed! And intense. And fucking beautiful.
