Another cool, grey day, now with rain on the way. Started reading John Gimlette's At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig last night, and so far it is very good. He doesn't play with language here quite the same way he did with Theatre of Fish, but that's all right.
Have been seeing a new novel touted on a couple of sites today (John Scalzi's Whatever and BoingBoing) -- The Mirage, by Matt Ruff. It's a historical AU in which American fundamentalists attacked the United Arab States on 11/9/01, thus sparking a War on Terror and the establishment of a Green Zone in Washington, DC. There are hints, though, that this setting isn't the real world, and there's another in which the U.S. is the reigning superpower, and Arab terrorists attacked America on 9/11/01 ...
It sounds to me a lot like something that has its roots in Philip K. Dick's classic The Man in the High Castle, which is not a bad thing. Anyway. I read the first few pages on Amazon and they were quite good, so I'm throwing it out there in case anyone else might be interested. I'm thinking I might order it for my birthday this year. :-D

Date: 2012-02-10 05:29 am (UTC)I can't wait until I can read whenever I want to again...for as long as I want.
The John Gimlette books intrigue me the most.
Just finished watching the BBC "North & South" mini series, starring the one and only Richard Armitage. *sighs*
