My favorite thing was probably the NOBODY EVER LISTENS TO ME line. Heh.

That is marvelous! I loved the line about only getting your original child back. :)

That was fantastic, although I probably missed half the literary references (at least I've read and loved Goblin Market).
I particularly appreciated the slow morphing from spoof technical language to personal, and totally unprofessional, suggestions until the final surprise.

And you can imagine I'm House-centered when I'll tell you I realized the whole poem can be read as a warning to Wilson before the show starts. Wilson has obtained a magical being as a friend, and he thoroughly enjoys him (even with occasional hardships) for years. Seven years, indeed. At the end of which, the elf magically disappears (House being an elf seems to me a good fit with canon).

We strongly recommend that you do not
fall in love with your elf.

"he got bored, you were getting old."

a pot of gold is a cold companion
on a lazy Sunday morning
[and a splint more so]

Wilson won't get a pot of gold (though Cuddy might). But he'd sell his soul to the devil to recover what he's lost.

I can think of no better explanation as to why I found deelaundry's One Is Silver not a happy end for Wilson (despite many people expecting satisfaction for him finally finding an unproblematic friendship and normal life) than

you are not eligible for monetary compensation,
only the return of your original child.

After an elf, even your own child is a poor substitute and unworthy of love: no "normal" human being can replace House in Wilson's heart. Or mine. Thanks for this, and for all your poetry links. I don't know why I found this one so moving.
