Good god, an absolutely gorgeous day. Finished reading Jennifer Egan's A Visit from the Goon Squad last night, and yeah. It is terrific. Egan starts out with three main characters -- Bennie Salazar, a recording mogul, Sasha, his assistant, and Alex, her boyfriend, and spins the story out from there, moving backwards and forward in time, picking up Bennie's and Sasha's and Alex's past and future relationships and acquaintances and telling their stories in turn. And in the end we return to the beginning, and know the place for the first time. (Ha!) The only fault I found was that at least one of the acquaintances' stories could have been discarded, because by the time I got to that one I couldn't remember who s/he was. Overall, though, this is just a great read. Some of the stories were deeply moving, some were funny, they were all interesting. Strong, strong rec for this excellent book.
So. Husband is busy setting up the new laptop he just got. I've taken some baby back ribs out of the freezer to thaw for dinner. Hope everyone is having a good Thursday. :-)
