Sunny and warm, and four things that have caught my attention (and/or made me smile) the past couple of days ...

A stampede of baby pygmy goats (and an old dog).

Dinosaur visits Australian school, terrorizes (and enthralls) children.

It's ... an ancient golden wang. (May not be work-safe.)

Baby goats! So cute! You know, if they stayed that small, everyone would want them as pets because they're so lively and adorable. :)

My almost first thought in seeing the golden wang was "it's a whistle," since it's hollow and open at both ends. But apparently not. ;P

I just loved it when the one baby goat was scampering across the deck and saw the dog, and skidded to a stop. Oh my god SO CUTE. :-D

And there's a connection there between whistles and putting things in one's mouth, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO GO THERE. Heh.

But the account of the San Francisco quake is the one that's going to stay with me. Remarkable in every way.

Have you seen the Australian dinosaur yet? That is really amazing.

The detail that caught me in the quake story was that she put her shoes on the wrong feet. That's the kind of tiny observation that would fit so well into a fic, and yet it's real. Just terrific stuff.

I was struck by her description of the humming sound throughout the city.

A lot of the Roman art featuring phalluses (is that the right plural?) was destroyed by Christians, correct?

Heh, I don't know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me. I will say, though, that if early Christians destroyed phallic art, it would probably be because of its connection to what they would've seen as paganism and idol worship, not because of its ... phallic-ness. *g*

Considering all the nudity in ancient art made by Christians as well, I'm inclined to agree with you: destruction of any/phallic art would have been done for reasons of paganism.

That dinosaur is incredible! And if they'd done that at Corgikid's school, he'd have run away faster than a scalded cat. :D

The detail about the dentist putting her shoes on the wrong feet was wonderful, as was the hotel with the front sheared off and the pink comforter hanging down, and the people who made stoves on the sidewalk from kerosene cans.

The dinosaur put the biggest grin on my face! That was some extraordinary costume!

The goats were totally adorable!!
The Raptor with two human leg growths (hee) rocked!
And the phallic art made me chuckle: gold ones are a rare find! Hahaha...!

The other article is so long it will keep for another time. Though what I've read so far is very fascinating.
