Warm and sunny -- 89 degrees (31.7 Celsius) and a bit humid. Temps have been above normal for the season the past few days. Need to run a couple of errands today.

In national news, I see that loon Christine O'Donnell has cancelled her scheduled appearances on Face the Nation and Fox News Sunday. Color me shocked, but not very. I imagine they had to cancel the latter to make it look good, because on the former they might have asked her about the mice with human brains and why it would have been wrong to lie to the Nazis, even if you were hiding Jews. No, for real. Of course, she said that way back in 1998, so maybe she's gotten smarter since then. But I doubt it.

Otherwise ... here's a pic of a cute kid on the back of a giant ox. Honestly, it looks like this should be on a postcard. *g*

It's hot and sunny today, but not steamy, thank goodness.

I managed to get to the grocery store before most of the Saturday crowd hit, then went to the Latino produce market and got the most beautiful sweet red peppers and sweet potatoes.

After lunch, there will be lots of housecleaning. I've been a bit slack lately and it shows.

On weekends I can barely stem the tide of mess that accompanies the guys. They can just walk into the house and suddenly there are crumbs on all the counters and dirty shoe prints on the floor.

Heeee. That mice thing is...special. And someone (don't remember who) on Rachel Maddow's show said that there has never been that much talk about masturbation in the news on politics. Made me grin.
On a more serious note, that whole "principles before people and rationality because God would have told me if it was otherwise" attitude is very sad.

And in completely other news, it's entirely fall here now, 15°C and a lot of wind. Beautifully coloured skies, though.

SORRY, I WISH I COULD SEND IT TO YOU. I have been freezing today - which actually might have had something to do with the icecream I was eating, but the wind didn't help. *g* And I have to admit that 31°C would annoy the hell out of me right now, too.

Yes, I do know that joke and I find it to be VERY appropriate. But saying that lying might be the right thing in some circumstances would of course mean to admit that there isn't only black and white in the world. Way too complicated. When did God ever tell you to use your brain like that?

In Jose Saramago's book 'The Gospel According to Jesus Christ' (which caused such a furor that he was forced to leave to emigrate) there's an interpretation of scripture that I've always found fascinating. Joseph overhears soldiers talking about how Herod has ordered them to kill all the first-born sons that night, and in a panic he flees home to his family and they go into hiding. Afterwards a mysterious figure who appears to Mary from time to time - confirmed later to be Satan - tells Mary that "Herod will be forgiven for his sin, but Joseph won't be forgiven for his." Mary doesn't understand, of course, so he explains. It was God's will that Joseph warn his neighbours about the impending massacre and so they could save their children, and he didn't do it. Therefore he is just as guilty of their deaths as Herod is.

The Tea Party candidates all are tied in to their ideology that they can't see their own stupidity. Ideology wins every time with them and that's why they are so scary. They actually believe the idiocies they spout. It's why so many of them are not being touted on tv. Whoever their handlers are all know that if they actually are seen saying this stuff repeatedly some of those who voted for them in the primaries will wake up.

I'm really hoping I'm right about that as well. I really don't want to live in a religious dictatorship and if some of these people get their way that's exactly what we'll have.

If I thought I had a chance of getting accepted as a permanent resident of another country I'd seriously be looking at emigrating about now But I'm over 60 and am not in a job category which is in high demand overseas.

The Tea Party never ceases to astonish me. It's like a Monty Python Sketch ("The Idiocracy") except not funny. The photo on the other hand is great. I only wish that they had also identified the dog. It looks like a Tamaskan, but it could also be a Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, or Utonagan. No way it's a Saarlooswolfhound based on its' evident relaxed temperament. This dog fanatic would like to know, though.

While it could be a Siberian cross, it's no Elkhound. Size aside, the head and body are much too long and lean (Elkhouds are much more cobby and smaller). As I said, I'm pretty sure it's a Tamaskan as the breed is proving popular for therapy dogs. Then again, it could just be a Husky/GSD cross... :D

The Tea Party also has resonances of Alice In Wonderland to me, either half-asleep or more than a little mad.

What's-her-name needs to re-read that part where Rahab (who was ... *gasp* ... a prostitute) hid the Jewish scouts and lied about it.

I skimmed the comments thread over there and someone said that the Democratic candidate is now substantially in the lead, where he'd been behind against the non-Tea Republican. I guess the saner conservatives are bailing just like they did when it was Palin.

Forgive me, but I am not going to go read whatever the nitwit had to say. I'm happy right now and would like to stay that way.

:-)

Pizza is heating for dinner; there is wine; there may be fic happening soonish, if I can get brain in gear.
