Well now. Thank you, DW, for telling me one of my icons didn't get imported. You even told me which one it was, so I could easily retrieve it from LJ and upload it here. Nice.

Cloudy and humid -- thunderstorms rolled through late yesterday afternoon, and then more thunder and rain early this morning. Lots of birds at the feeders -- Chango and I stepped out on the deck and were immediately scolded and fussed at by the titmice and chickadees. 75 degrees right now (23.9 Celsius).

Mr. N gets home from Kansas City tonight so must do housely things, so I'll be in and out of here off and on today, trying to figure things out. :-)

Isn't that nice? DW did that for me last night.

I need to check with Corgiguy and see if there's room in this week's budget for the carpet cleaner to come do his magic. Things are looking pretty dire downstairs and a good cleaning always improves it considerably. I decided we could live with the horrible carpet a few years longer in return for getting the Fit paid off ahead of time, but we'd like to have a hard floor put in before the critters reach the age of senile incontinence. :)

Are you thinking hardwood, linoleum, pergo? We put in a pergo laminate floor in the master bedroom, and I like it there. Not sure how it would do in a main living area with pets, though--the hardwood in our main living area was put in before we bought the house, and I love it.

I tell you what else I love: I HAVE MORE ICON SPACE! Wow, I am still marveling about it.

We're thinking about hardwood, especially since we saw scads of it that had been donated by local flooring manufacturers to the Habitat Restore.

The stairway and upstairs still look good in our house, but the living areas have taken a beating from child and pets. There's only so much spot cleaning can do for a cat with a propensity for yakking and a dog who pees when it thunders.

HI NIGHTDOG HELLO!

Your post is different here than over there! Amazing! *g*

I'm done with class, and feeling rather fried-in-the-head, but I've got a meeting this afternoon, so. I think I'll have some lunch. And maybe play with my DW a bit.

Yep, I think I'll leave my existing journal up, and just direct comments here, and let the LJ lapse to a free account.

I wonder just how much DW staffers are dancing, right about now...

If I had the time, I'd love to print out this year's daily stats from DW (it's up at Jackal's journal) and match it to the LJ News comm. I bet there's a direct correlation between Teh Stoopid and spikes in DW membership. :D

I saw that! And it doesn't even count people like you and me and Mare, who had accounts here already (due to the last round of LJSTUPID) and decided to make them paid accounts. The paid accounts on LJ will start lapsing in the next few months, and then it'll really start to hurt.

There are over 7,000 comments to the news post now. Apparently someone got hold of a translation of a Russian news release that indicated a Grand Plan to lure more Russian users to Facebook via LJ.

I am finding myself checking that news post today, and shaking my head. I wonder if that post will hit the comment-limit...

Oy, indeed. LJ seems to have such a loyal fanbase, and instead of listening and offering changes that fanbase would pay a little more for, they did ... this.

Since it's a violation of LJ's own terms of service, it'll be fun to see if a few lawsuits take wing.

Grand Plan to lure more Russian users to Facebook via LJ.

Now, see, that makes sense. That's sort of Standard Operating Procedure for Facebook, and despite much insistence that Facebook never pays for these kinds of linking deals, I believe they want that juicy new market and have offered something juicy in return. If not cash, then some means of generating lots of cash, such as promoting LJ on Facebook. A deal has been made.

And this being Facebook, I do not believe that a deal, once made, can ever truly be unmade, and that's why I'm here on DW now.

Back from my appointment, and ... wow. Um ... um ...

... I was actually ready to walk away from this gig. This gentleman is a really nice guy but oh, bless his heart, his house.

I mean, he inherited a lot of the decorative travesties when he bought the place, but seems intent on inflicting a whole new and different set upon it. Although I doubt anything could outdo the blue-and-black-scattered-zits sponge-painting job in the room where he wants the mural. I've never seen anything quite like it, and my only real demand was that this had to be well painted over before I begin. Because my artist's paints are not that opaque, and would require many layers to hide those splotches.

He's removing the early-'80s striped pinkish floral wallpaper in the kitchen ... but replacing it with a wallpaper that resembles some kind of fabric from Jamaica, maybe? It's a large abstract pattern of deep blue with oranges, reds, yellows.

And he just seems so unsure of himself, and rushed, and I wish he'd take a breath and chill out. But I'll only be there for a day, and it'll be good money, and I talked him out of the Idea That Would Have Looked All Wrong and we settled on the Idea That Could Actually Be OK, so.

Why, why, why must I be out of caffeinated coffee today?

Mmm hm. Sounds sort of on the level of the mirrored flocked wallpaper in this one house where I worked. A '70s remnant, the current owners were not the culprits, but the whole house was just, just eye-poppingly bad.

And in fairness, the Sponge Paint Polka-Dots weren't this man's doing, either. And some of the house's wallpaper, he has ditched in favor of plain old paint and in a pleasant color, so it's not all horrendous. He just seems to have no concept whatsoever of "these things do not belong together."

I have a feeling he's probably not a very good cook.

HI MARE HI!

I'm so, so sorry you don't have coffee. And also, your client's house sounds a little like our house must have been, at one point--we found the wallpaper extras in the basement, and the previous owner said when they moved in it was all over the house--shiny gold and silver, with white designs in fleur-de-lis and such. Oh, and the white was fuzzy. GOD. NO.

I sometimes wish we'd taken photos of our house before we re-did the entire interior. Then I'm glad we didn't because they could be used against us at a sanity hearing.

The kitchen had black and white striped wallpaper that looked like someone had stripped the Hamburglar naked and used his clothes to make it.

Yeah, it came with the house, along with the motorcycle license plates nailed to the walls and "sinking of the Titanic" wall paper in the bathroom.

Heh. I just rejoiced because you know what? DW allows me to see the status of my inbox on my reading page. Such a small thing, but that's what I call user-friendly. Just like the preview button right there. *g*
