Cloudy, warm and humid. 79 degrees (26.1 Celsius). Sometime over the next few days I'm going to have to turn the central air on. Plus nighttime hot flashes have returned with a vengeance. Blergh.

Not much else at the moment. Watched American Experience: Into the Deep last night, partly because it's a great series and partly because Robert Sean Leonard was one of the narrators (yes, I am shall0w, but you already knew that). RSL looked a whole heck of a lot more at ease as Herman Melville than he does as Wilson, and he even had a five o'clock shadow. He was shot in a lovely warm light that made him look just awesome. *g*

Anyway. That's it for now.

ETA that for those who are interested, here's the first review I've seen of the new Russell Crowe 'Robin Hood'. Spoilers abound.

I got this stuff at Trader Joe's, in the vitamin section, called Estroven, and it seems to have helped the hot flashes, but you never know, they might have been scheduled to depart anyway. Worth trying for the cost of a bottle.

I'll look for that. I'm not having night sweats, but I do get really warm and it's ridiculously uncomfortable.

Natural progesterone cream, which you can find over the counter in a health food store, also helps with that. It's a big help with sore boobs too.

And HI! I'm finally dropping in for morning coffee at, oh, almost supper time. Crazy day with the Episcopalians and yes, Harvey did drop by -- twice.

Heh -- my boobs, oddly enough, are much less sore! It's like one symptom shows up and throws a wild party, and when it leaves something else that's equally as disagreeable comes along. Oy!

And ZOMG a two-Harvey day!

Yeah, perimenopause is more fun than a box of Cracker Jacks. You never know what the day's prize symptoms are going to be! :D

It wasn't just Harvey twice. I got the whole danged gang today plus the census workers and the high school test takers. Gah. The Padre was so busy I thought I'd have to make an appointment just to give him his messages and get his signature on a letter.

HI NIGHTDOG HI!

*looks around* Oh, nifty. :)

Anyway: I'm working on my list, moving at a glacially slow pace, but moving, and wondering where everybody is. *pouts*

*g* Well, I just now realized that by changing styles, I lost my sidebar customization (with the "What I'm Reading Now"), so I had to go in and fix that. Oops!

It does seem to be a very quiet Tuesday, doesn't it?

Well, Wilson's just not a very at-ease kind of guy. And I find I am still hurting from last night's episode, even through the few hours of work I just did, finishing up (I hope) at the Eden Prairie site. But that's a discussion for a different post.

I have so much to do today. Tons of cleaning, but also some art, at long last. And it's raining and icky and cold, so it's quite dark up here in the Hobbit Hole and I'll be burning a lot of electricity to try to keep my mood and energy level up.

Hm. What is it with you and these icy journal styles? Not that I'm complaining; I've just noticed a tendency for you to pick snowflakes and such.

ETA: missed the thing about central air and hot flashes, somehow. That would probably explain it.

Heh, I'm still marveling over the cinematic craftsmanship of last night's episode -- the folding of one scene into another, the constant breaking of set boundaries. I was thinking about it last night and finally realized it reminded me of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, in which the players are basically ... aware they're in a play, and that their roles go far beyond what's written in the script.

I think I was born into the wrong region. My favorite vacations have always been to the north -- I should've been born in Minnesota or Vermont or Maine or the Yukon or the Northwest Territories. *g*

It's too cold right now for my taste - fifty-eight degrees in May isn't good enough, and I'm ready for it to be hot. Tomorrow it should hit the high 70s, which is a start.

In more cheerful news, PBS' website has Into the Deep available as a streaming video. It'll probably go nicely with another round of room-cleaning.

Heh, 58 sounds really nice right now.

The historic footage in Into the Deep is just amazing -- real films from what looks like the late 19th-early 20th century. Some of the narration, though, is fairly stomach-churning -- the details of how a large mammal dies in the ocean are NOT for the sensitive or faint of heart.

In better news, I can tell you that RSL appears much more in the second half of the show. *g*

Hub and I watched Into the Deep last night, too. So fascinating. Moby Dick is one of husband's fave books; I've never read it, but after seeing the program last night, I'm thinking that I should.

*sigh* There are a gazillion books I want to read. I wish that I was independently wealthy and didn't have to work so that I could sit in coffee shops and read all day.

I've got a copy around here somewhere that I keep meaning to reread -- I first read it when I was like twelve or thirteen, way too young to really understand everything that was going on.

Perhaps your husband would like this t-shirt (http://www.outofprintclothing.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=B-1009). *g*

I'm looking forwrd to seeing the American Experience episode. I started watching it last night, but didn't have time to finish it (the first 10 minutes looked fantastic, though) and for the next two nights I'm in a hotel in Cincinnati.

Which charges for Internet access.

Grrrr.

It's a really good episode, although as the NY Times review pointed out (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/10/arts/television/10deep.html?hpw), it was a little awkward that they essentially shoehorned two stories (the narrative of the whaleship Essex and the history of whaling) into one segment. Nathaniel Philbrick is one of the narrators, and I know the Essex is his baby, but it took attention away from the greater story.

Cincinnati's a nice city! Although I haven't been there in years ...

Have you read Philbrick's book? I liked it. Of course I read that and Stewart O'Nan's ""Great Circus Fire" back to back, which made a friend just stare at me when she found out.

Oh! I wish I'd known about the American Experience ep - I would have watched. Looks like it's not going to be on again for a while at a time when I can see it (i.e. not during the workday), but I'll add it to my email alerts.
