And it looks like my first task of 2010 will be to buy a new laptop.

Ack! Speaking as someone who was in that very situation last year, I'm sorry. :(

I know you'll be in mourning for your old laptop, but it'll be okay. You'll be able to find something bigger and faster for a very reasonable price. Good luck!

Oh, no! Being laptopless is like being adrift at sea. Internet is important, mkay. On the bright side, maybe you can get a good post-Christmas deal on something.

Isn't this, like, the second one in as many years? Sheesh.

*hugs*

ETA that as much as I love the aged little Macbook I've got, the first ratings survey I found suggests that you'd be safer with a Toshiba, Sony, or ... Asus?. Huh. I've never even heard of Asus.

I believe Perspi's netbook is an Asus. We're experimenting right now to see if maybe it's the battery in this one.

ETA that it died again, so it wasn't the battery. Grrrr.

Toshiba is my choice for the day (hopefully long in the future) when my sturdy little Gateway needs replacing.

It keeps turning itself off. We're trying an experiment now to see if it's the battery.

:-P

Well, if you suddenly disappear we'll know why.

I thought Perspi's was an Acer? Which, I'm sad to say, came in close-to-last, edging out Gateway and Hewlett-Packard. That's ... not what you've got, is it? An HP?

Edited for statistics fail.

I have a Lenovo, which has been a cantankerous bitch since Day One. Although some folks love them, so apparently it's the model or the luck of the draw. Or something.

Amazingly enough, we backed it all up about a week ago.

So that's one good thing!
