... to all those celebrating today. Happy Thursday, everybody else. *g*

Sunny and cool (54 degrees), not a cloud in the sky. We'll have our turkey this evening, so we have some time before we have to do anything. Maybe we could make cranberry sauce early and crumble up the leftover cornbread to make cornbread dressing ...

More later, chiclets. :-)

Good morning! We'll be driving to San Francisco instead of taking the train because it'll be easier for my grandmother.

I second the motion for cornbread dressing. Also a long walk to enjoy the weather - I'm going out for a run in a bit to enjoy the flat landscape, which is quite the rarity in Pennsylvania.

Oh, San Francisco sounds lovely!

We put serranos in our dressing -- perks it right up. ;-)

Hi darling.

I'll be headed to Chez Greyhound soon. Should be a pretty nice day. Kelly's mom is in town, and she's really sweet and a lot of fun.

Wish I didn't just feel like going back to sleep. I think some tea may be in order.

Don't overdo it today -- take it easy.

Mr. N and I were joking that they should have James McMurtry at the Macy's Parade, to sing about TRAGEDY and DESTRUCTION in the American heartland. You know, just as a contrast to the marching bands and clowns and HAPPY FLOATS.

... what?

From: [identity profile] blackmare-9.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'm taking it slow. I was pretty awake until I took a nice hot shower and now I'm like a limp noodle.

James McMurtry, heh. Imagine what his float would look like! I'm picturing a tableau with an old trailer with the side cut away so you can see Uncle Slayton's meth lab cooking happily away. Outside, the family would be gathered around a bonfire or doing target practice with their Desert Eagles, while passing the bottle of moonshine around.

Happy Thanksgiving! Getting ready to head over to my parents' house in a bit to spend the holiday with them and my brother. Dad makes a fantastic rotisserie turkey! :)

Rotisserie turkey sounds DELICIOUS! Wow!

Happy Thanksgiving! *hugs*

I know most Ronco products are simply ridiculous and beyond useless/impractical, but that Showtime Rotisserie (http://www.asseenontvguys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=907") they make is really great. Mom and Dad bought it years and years ago and everything they cook in there comes out *amazing*. I'm very much looking forward to our traditional rotisserie turkey. :)

Happy Thanksgiving! My mother is here for the holiday, and we're going downtown for the fancy hotel lunch in about an hour. Later this evening I'll hook my laptop to the TV (ESPN360) to watch the Big Football Game.

She has to go back home tomorrow, which makes me a little wistful, because I was hoping for a little scrum tomorrow at the shops, but I can leave it. The rest of the weekend will be more football.

Aw, a hotel lunch sounds lovely! Is it at the Driskill?

YAY FOOTBALL! Hee.

From: [identity profile] warmdarkwoman.livejournal.com
Ayup. The Driskill is spendy, but it's my mom. I'd have cooked, but I wasn't able to find a turkey less than ten pounds. Plus my kitchen is way too small.

Yay football, indeed. I'm going to be on tenterhooks the entire time. My team is very good, but those Ags are always fierce and would love to play spoiler.

Howdy, Nightdog!

Right now, it's like the comedy hour in my house because my big brother's here from Chicago, and two good family friends are here from Seattle, and everything from the kitchen is a potential prank prop and absolutely nobody is safe. I honestly can't remember the last time I've had this much fun. :D

Sounds like you folks have fantastic weather over there, so enjoy it! Oh, and I'm thankful for you, and everyone else on this page...and Perspi if she ever shows up. :)

Heh, one of the last times we had friends and family crowding into our house was for our rehearsal dinner (in our previous house, which was SMALL). Mr. N's younger brother rubber-banded the kitchen sink sprayer open, so that the next time somebody turned the water on, it went everywhere. ;-)

And I'm thankful for you too, sweetie! *hugs*

Haha, that's a great prank. Our sink doesn't have a sprayer, so it seems I'm out of luck. Oh well, I'll imporvise. ;)

HI VERB.

I'm missing my family today, so I'm happy to have LJ friends around and to have Kelly's house to go to. Will be leaving for there in a few minutes, with drawing materials in hand because Kell and I both have work to do.

I'm thankful for many things and many people today, and glad that I am finally on the road to recovery.

Haha, I'm just imagining you and Kelly fervently drawing while dipping spoons into some sort of casserole. :D I'm sure you two will have a great time (take it easy though!).

I'm so glad you're on the road to recovery! I had piggy flu over the summer and that shit was impossible to shake. :/

Actually, we'll be in the basement, where Kell has her jewelry workshop set up. She'll be more likely stirring a small pot of melted pewter for casting, while I draw. :-)

This thing IS hard to kick but I just took a temp reading of 98.6; first time for "no fever at all" in over a week.

Happy Thanksgiving! Does it sound odd that I don't do the big family thing at this holiday? Back when I used to work in daily newspapers and had to work on Fridays, it was too much of a pain to travel 3 hours each way for a dinner, then rush back, so I got into the habit of just getting a few friends together and having a low key holiday with food and movies. It makes for a nice, relaxing holiday, I've found. (Though we still do the food thing up the wazoo.)

Also, is "Sweeny Todd" considered a good movie for post-Thanksgving diner viewing? At least we're not having any meat pies.

Not at all! I'm not a real fan of the big family thing, honestly -- that's why I'm glad it's just me and Mr. N (and Chango, who's been running around the house and the back yard all morning and has FINALLY collapsed).

Sweeney Todd sounds fine to me, but then I'm the one who brought up the idea of James McMurtry appearing in the Macy's Parade in this thread. ;-D

There were a few years when people felt "sorry" for me, and invited me to their big family bashes, and that was just uncomfortable. They were nice people and all, but still, every family has its traditions and ours isn't the white linen tablecloth kind of family. (Theirs usually were.)

Much more fun just to have a turkey potluck with friends.

I enjoy the Big Family Thing, but not in the white-linen-tablecloth kind of way. I wouldn't know what to do with that. My crew was always way more relaxed.

I kind of suspect that I am Kelly and Mr. Kelly's charity case for the holidays, since I have no family up here, but I can't say I mind. Five years of being roomies made me and Kell pretty much related anyway, you know?

Date: 2009-11-26 07:16 pm (UTC)

Heck, five years of being roomies is more than some families have ever managed anyway.

Sweeney Todd is a great movie for anytime, darn it!

I don't have any ST icons so this Public Enemies one will have to suffice.

*staggers in with large rum and coke in hand*

We're home from driving to what feels like Egypt and back. The food was great and company good and I did not throw my brother out the van window on the way home, no matter how badly I was tempted.

My nephew and his adorable wife were there. He's getting his doctorate in December, and his mom and I embarrassed him by getting out the box of artwork he made in elementary school and cooing over it. :D

Is this the nephew who looks like RSL? And that's why you're always supposed to keep those elementary school projects!

;-)

He used to be a dead-ringer for him, right down to the eyebrows and the teddy-bear pudginess -- but now he's lost weight (no money to eat in grad school), wears glasses and has grown out his sideburns, so he doesn't look so much like RSL now.
