Sunny and warm, 84 degrees. Weather guys are talking about tropical storms in the Atlantic ... hm. I have an old storm!fic WIP buried somewhere. Maybe I should dig it out -- it's about a hurricane striking the East Coast (as a Category-3 did in 1938, killing over 600 people throughout New England).

What else? Lots of blue jays and doves coming to the water dish -- in addition, there was a pretty house finch on the feeder yesterday.

So. More later.

I dread hurricane season, and with this horrible and scary summer weather I can't imagine how bad it's going to be this year.

I'd be up for some good storm!fic, though. ;)

I am both fascinated and terrified by hurricanes. When Katrina hit, I spent most of the night before listening to my NOAA weather radio and refreshing New Orleans news station websites on my laptop. When the NOAA updates stopped, I knew the city was in huge trouble.

I am always entranced by the fact that despite our civilization, the earth could decide to wipe us all out and do it without flinching. It makes me respect and appreciate my position on terra firma much, much more.

We don't get hurricanes this far north, but there is the occasional tornado.
I'm working at the Crisis Line again, and then I should go home and clean my house. Yesterday I bought a new bathing suit. Bathing suit shopping is very depressing.

I'm a pretty pessimistic person, but when I do get around to counting blessings on occasion, I always thank the gods for my current safety insofar as not being in a weather crisis goes. Everything is so fragile...

Hee! I've only gotten as far as some research, a lot of notes, and a first paragraph, so we'll see if it ever gets written.

It is fascinating to think of a hurricane hitting Long Island or New Jersey ... it's happened, though.

I've been puttering around the house, which included cutting Corgiguy's hair with the new clippers. These chop the cut hairs up into tiny stabby pieces that got stuck to my arms and were driving me nuts.

The only dusting powder in the house has menthol in it, so now I smell like a grandma's handbag. But at least I don't itch any more. :D

Oh, I hate how all those tiny hair fragments stick to everything. Sometimes I have to change shirts after getting a haircut because it's so itchy.

... I smell like a grandma's handbag.

Hee, what a great turn of phrase!

HELLO!

We took a trip to Big Town today and had a generally lovely morning--the Mr and Z ended up sleeping in until I'd already finished my workout!--and now Z is FINALLY asleep. It takes at least 45 minutes to get her to go down, no matter what we do. GR and ARGH.

Anyway. I was hoping to do some organizing in the guest room/sewing room today. And perhaps a little sewing, while Z is sleeping. But for Right Now I'm online, having some tea and catching up with the lovelies. *hugs*

We had a huge storm last night. Well, "huge" meaning it only lasted about ten minutes, but for those ten minutes it was huge. Gale force winds, thunder loud enough to make it seem like the whole house was shaking, torrential rain... Scared the crap out of me when the first clap of thunder struck! It was at about 2am when it did.

We had a storm like that a few days ago! I love thunder, but not those blasts where it seems like the house is going to lift off its foundations are NOT nice.
