In this case, the plumber took away $117. This was for taking apart our shower head and faucet, scraping out all the crystalline gunk our crappy local water deposits there (thus causing Loud, Annoying Drips), and putting it back together. Took him all of about ... oh, thirty minutes. His name was Dwayne, by the way. Dwayne the plumber. Yup.

Thawed a Cornish hen for dinner; going to cut it in half, marinate, and grill the halves outside. Because it is that nice out. Husband's car stuff did indeed take all day.

Not much else right now.

I'd love a little grilling weather, not to mention marinated grilled Cornish hen.

*sigh*

I shoveled snow this afternoon. Heh. You sure you can't email me some dinner?

Hee. I'd try, but I'm afraid it would lose too many bits and bytes on its journey through etherspace.

I just drew eggplant (for Corgigirl) and now I'm really, really hungry.

I've only had Cornish hen once. Or maybe I'm only remembering catering a party where the guests were served the hens. Hm.

I'm making some salmon -- first time cooking fish other than shrimp since moving here, because the fish usually looks and smells less than appetizing at the seafood counter at the supermarket. Baking with garlic, oil and lemon juice.

We buy Cornish hens a lot -- one of them is just about the perfect size for the two of us, and it usually stays juicier than chicken when cooking.

That's a surprise about the fish, considering where you are!

I know, right? All the fresh fish must go to other places. Though I must say, today's was pretty tasty.

Isn't it great when you can grill in mid-winter? Our forecast high tomorrow is 30 F so we'll be BBQing a roast for New Year's Eve.

And your holiday card arrived! It's lovely, thank you so much! :-D

It took this long? Darn -- I mailed them all on the same day, and I thought for sure yours would get there at about the same time as Phinnia's, and hers arrived on ... well, I can't remember, but it was before Christmas. *g*

And yay for grilling outside! We just lit ours and Chango helped. Hee.

Dwayne the plumber ... hmm. Why can I imagine him as part of one of your dark, dark tortured!Wilson stories?

Cute icon, BTW.

Heh. You're right -- Dwayne the plumber would make an excellent addition to the Mauled!Wilson pantheon. *g*

And thanks! This icon is from a thumbnail in a NY Times article about childrens' books -- the illustrator is an artist named Bob Shea. Please feel free to copy!

I'm frantically trying to finish the last of my 2008 WIP slush pile stories and may do grave bodily harm to the next person who stomps through this room. *grrr*

I just poked the chicken I was planning to cook tomorrow night for New Year's Eve supper (nothing as ambitious as Wilson's holiday meal!) and I think we will be ringing in 2009 with homemade pizza instead. That bird is still frozen hard as a rock.

I was hoping I'd get one more story in for New Year's Eve, but I don't think it's going to happen.

We're thawing out a small rib roast for dinner tomorrow -- homemade pizza sounds wonderful, though!
