1) Yesterday the temperature was in the mid-60s; today, right now, it is 40 (4.4 Celsius), but it feels like 35 (1.7 C) because it is so DAMP. Layla, of course, thinks it is SPLENDID weather.

2) Was delighted to see the Eagles win last night. DELIGHTED. :D

3) Reading Emma Cline's The Girls and liking it very much so far (I'm about 70 pages in). Story set in 1969 about a teenage girl who becomes involved with a cult-ish group that calls itself a "family." Obvious parallels to the Manson "family" are obvious, but the author is handling it really well.

4) Finished David Grann's Killers of the Flower Moon, and it was terrific. Nonfiction, "true crime" history of a series of murders in early 20th-century Oklahoma, where bad guys (very bad guys) were killing Osage Indians in order to take over the fortunes they were being paid for petroleum leases on their land. It is an ugly story, not over when you think it's over -- indeed, at the very end of the book, I felt like the hapless detective at the end of The Usual Suspects when he finally realizes that everything he thought he knew was a lie. Strongly recommended, two thumbs way up!

5) Watched the stock market meltdown this afternoon in real time. It was ... exciting, in a 'This is fine' kind of way. :-P

Five things, post.
