I have actually been sleeping a little better, but this morning I woke up around 4 and did a lot of tossing and turning before I finally got up. Oh well.

Finished Doug Swanson's Blood Aces and really enjoyed it! It's more of a social history of Big Crime in Dallas and Las Vegas, with a concentration on the gambling personality Benny Binion than a straight biography of Binion, but that's all right. I had had NO IDEA that Dallas was such a mobbed-up town from the 1920s onward! Everybody was in on it! The police department, the sheriff's department, the BIG BANKS funneling money to the Vegas mob! There was a huge high-rollers club in ARLINGTON, with secret tunnels and passageways! It turns out the high school I went to was named after a guy who was not only a prominent doctor and civic leader -- he also ran one of the biggest brothels in town! LOL. Two strong thumbs up.

Started David Mitchell's newest novel, The Bone Clocks, and it's good so far. I think it has a bit more of a fantasy element than either Ghostwritten or Cloud Atlas.

We have a new Whole Foods in our neighborhood (they opened yesterday) so I stopped by there today, and oh my god I had forgotten that their nickname of Whole Paycheck is come by honestly. I bought a few things (some Greek olive oil, canned Italian tomatoes, a couple bottles of wine) but no, not going to be shopping there every week. Probably not even every month. Oy.

And our front did come through. It is 77 here now (25 degrees Celsius). :D
