Colombian novelist Juan Gabriel Vásquez wins Dublin literary prize.
I read the winning book, The Sound of Things Falling, last week and really liked it. It's sure as hell not a happy book, but it's an excellent read, with finely-pointed portrayals of life in the '90s in Bogotá, the Colombian countryside, and as a U.S. citizen in the Peace Corps. My only complaint was that I could pretty much tell from the word go how one character (Ricardo Laverde) made his living, so I wasn't sure if I was really supposed to be surprised or not. But it is very much worth a read.
So. Still working my way through Gettysburg. Had some nice thundershowers roll through at about 6 a.m., now it's cloudy, warm, and HUMID. Ugh.
