Wet Monday
Sep. 2nd, 2013 01:58 pmRain last night, serious thunder and lightning at about 2:30 a.m., more rain this morning through about noon. So now it's warm and super-humid, but after that last BLAST OF OVEN AIR, this is MOST WELCOME. So.
1) Watched most of Life of Pi, still not sure what I think about it. Cinematography was amazing, but I had forgotten there was more than one animal on the raft and so I was caught off guard by the violence.
2) Finished Sir Alistair Horne's Fall of Paris and really liked it. Learned much more about the Franco-Prussian War and the Commune than I knew before.
3) Watched Les Misérables last night and ... did not think it was so great. I did like Eddie Redmayne as Marius, thought that Samantha Barks was beautiful as Éponine, and would pay good money to see Sacha Baron Cohen as the Emcee/Master of Ceremonies in a remake of Cabaret. Also, I am sorry but I couldn't stand Daniel Huttlestone as theCockney street kid Gavroche. Yes, I am a heartless ogre, but then you already knew that.
4) Started reading Michael Hainey's After Visiting Friends: A Son's Story -- it's fairly short, and so far it's pretty good.
5) My African violet in our master bath is blooming. It had been so long I couldn't remember what color the flowers are. They're white, with delicate pink highlights. :D
Five things make a post.
