Dark and much cooler -- 53 degrees right now, after a big line of storms moved through at about 12:30 this morning. I think by the time they got to us they'd weakened somewhat, so we didn't get any hail or high wind. So now it is just ... wet.

When I turned my laptop this a.m., it ran CHKDSK. On its own. Then it came the rest of the way up normally. Color Nightdog confused.

Nobody read the poem I posted last night? It's a good poem ...

Otherwise befuddled by life. As usual.

Our local news has devoted their ENTIRE news hour to a police chase, of a guy who stole $20 worth of gas from a station in Sherman and then tried to hit two cops who attempted to stop him. They've driven from Sherman (way north of Dallas) to Corsicana (way south of Dallas). One tire is out and he's driving on the rim.

He's rolled down his window at least once and WAVED AT THE HELICOPTERS.

ETA that it's just now ended, with the guy forced off the road and into a rain-filled ditch. The chase lasted for a total of TWO HOURS.

For those who remember this post about Dreamland, I happened to run across some more information on the lost Coney Island amusement park.

This site has some good photographs and postcards of the park, including the beautiful entrance, the Dreamland Tower, and Hell Gate, a boat ride through the "caverns of Hell," which was where the fire actually started. Oh, irony. Heh.

This site has a lot more historical info -- the illustrations are not quite as good and it looks like a few are missing, but like I said, more historical data.

It's really amazing to think that the Dreamland Bell is about the only thing left of all this. Apparently the New York Aquarium stands on the site now. There's a bit more information about the bell here, along with a better photo.

In other news, cool and dreary all day. Roasting a chicken for dinner ...
