Sunny and cool, 52 degrees with a forecast high of 65.

Finished reading Toni Morrison's A Mercy last night, and was sorry to put it down. It's really an excellent story, with a fascinating cast of characters. I think it's got some elements of The Handmaid's Tale going on, but it's not quite as dark as that little nightmare, if only because we know that the society in Morrison's book will evolve, not devolve. Next up, something on the other end of the spectrum -- Ghost Road Blues, by Jonathan Maberry. Because I'm in the mood for some monsters that jump out and go "BOO!"

So. More coffee, and then maybe a sausage biscuit.

Went walking again today; heard a woodpecker, saw some small sparrow/finch-like birds and a cardinal. Also met a dog who was very curious about me but wouldn't come close enough for me to pet. Which was okay, because this was one of the very few dogs I've ever met that I didn't feel immediately comfortable with. So I didn't hold out my hand at all and just spoke softly to him. I'm not even sure what kind it was -- it looked somewhat like a bull terrier mix. It was brown and white, actually rather cute, but I wasn't putting my hand out there. It had beautiful eyes -- an absolutely lovely shade of gold.

So anyway. Now I'm thinking about buying a walking stick, something like this or this.

Making ribs for dinner -- just now took the foil cover off the baking pan and slathered them with barbecue sauce. They smell really good.
