Sunday Night

So. Baked bread (whole wheat, ten-grain, pepitas). Made corned beef and cabbage (and potatoes and carrots) for dinner. Accidentally bonked the dog in the nose with the refrigerator door; I felt the very light thump!, and after a moment there was a highly indignant "yip!". Hee.
Watched Kings ...
We liked it. It was a fairly-well realized attempt at an AU world, and some of the battlefield scenes reminded me not only of the modern Middle East, but also the photography of Robert Capa.
Liked the kid playing David Shepherd (who else thought of SG:A when he was promoted to Captain? hee), liked most of the other cast. Loved Ian McShane. Jesus, but that man can act. The tiny -- tiny -- little scene, where he visited his other family, and winced as he eased himself into his chair ... he conveys so much in one facial expression than many others in an entire soliloquy. Also liked the actor portraying his son (Jack).
Thought the rescue scene at the beginning was nicely filmed, but what the holy hell was David doing out there with those SHINY, JANGLING DOG TAGS? Dude. That duct tape you were handling five seconds before? USE IT TO TAPE THOSE TAGS TOGETHER. For God's sake, I know that.
Hated the Big Speech to the Gathian (Gathan?) tanks. Ouch. Good heavens, what a CLUNKY, anvilicious speech. Both Mr. Nightdog and I just groaned.
Did I mention how good Ian McShane is? Hee.
So anyway. We'll watch it again. It wasn't great, but it caught our interest enough that we want to see more. And that's the entire point, isn't it? *g*
And so, and so, and so. Nice night.
