Tuesday Almost Wednesday

Loved Person of Interest tonight.

I told Mister Nightdog that Finch has this whole Pygmalion thing going on with Shaw, that he's trying to tame and re-mold her but she won't be tamed. And I was delighted to see the writers use a classic "Chekhov's Gun" trope. Carter was a BADASS; I half-expected the weasel rookie to call her an uppity bitch, because it seemed clear that's where he was going along with his casual misogynism.

Also! Harold feeding Bear a cookie! Shaw being SO UTTERLY DISGUSTED that she can't just shoot people WHO OBVIOUSLY NEED SHOOTING. She's just there for the dog! Shaw being THOROUGHLY EXASPERATED by the kid's questions! Finch ripping apart the old pay phone! Shaw wrapping up her arm WITH DUCT TAPE.

I have to say I really, really love the strong women on this show. And that includes Root.

I am only half-paying attention to Agents of SHIELD. The stories ... IDK, they're just not that engaging to me, and while I like Agent Coulson, it feels like Clark Gregg is underplaying him to the point of ... sleepwalking.

Started reading (of all things) a biography of Charles Manson. Yes, I know. But so far it's really good. He had a pretty traumatic childhood (not that that excuses anything). It's by someone named Jeff Guinn -- here it is on Amazon. Also! My copy of Donna Tartt's new novel, The Goldfinch, came today. :D

Yeah, the confrontation between Carter and the weasel was amazing - I was spoiled for it and still thought so. Good on her that she distrusted him from the beginning, I was a bit worried there, but the writers came through. I also kind of love how personally angry she is about the whole HR business, because it's on her home turf, and because they are so completely disloyal, and of course they killed Beecher. And yeah, the weasel didn't need to say "uppity" when he said that she "doesn't know her place", which was something Terney implied last year as well. I was also impressed that John and Harold knew, kept an eye on it, but basically let her do her thing there.

Also yep about the whole Pygmalion thing, though it went a bit too far in one or two scenes for my liking - but then I'm thinking that Harold is really out of his depth, he is less in control than ever, with the Machine, which he is quite worried about, and with Root, and with Northern Lights knowing about him, and then there's Shaw, pretty uncontrollable, too, and he concentrates on her as the one thing he thinks he can change - and then compliments her for defying him in the end, which was so lovely. "So am I fired?" "On the contrary, I think you finally got the job." <3 Oh, and I loved the way Sarah Shahi played the "I know I fucked up, but don't bench me for making a mistake" scene, because you can just see how that's the one thing important to her, and that she is much more conflicted about herself than she lets on. So great.
And! "How much do you know about chemistry, Harold?" - "Enough." Hee! :D
