Wednesday

Too warm and too humid -- temperature and dewpoint combined make it seem as if it's 100 outside (which would be 37.8 degrees Celsius). Also it feels like it should be Thursday. Maybe even Friday, but at the very least Thursday.

Watched The Shawshank Redemption on TV the other night for the umpteenth time and decided to reread the novella. So picked up my old paperback copy of Stephen King's Different Seasons (a Signet Classic from 1983, costing all of $6.99).

Red's race is never specified (i.e., he's not necessarily Morgan Freeman).
The poster Tim Robbins (Andy) has on his cell wall when he escapes isn't Raquel Welch, it's Linda Ronstadt.
Tommy (who had the new evidence that could've freed Andy) doesn't die -- he's merely transferred to a minimum-security prison.
Brooks Hatlen (James Whitmore), the old con who's finally paroled after spending decades behind bars, doesn't hang himself.
The incident with the LP record, where Andy broadcasts opera through the prison PA system, doesn't happen.
Warden Norton (Bob Gunton, in a chilling, slimy role) doesn't commit suicide.
Oh, and Andy's a short little guy. Tim Robbins is six five. *g*

Yes, I know none of those should be considered spoilers, seeing as how long the movie's been out, but I've seen folks called on the carpet for less. So. Better safe than sorry.

All I've got for right now.

Thursday would be excellent. :) It's only in the mid-80s here, which isn't so bad after that week of 100-plus.

I had a hankering to read Needful Things again the other night. SK has written some great summertime books.

I know that in the film Red refers to seeing Andy as thinking a stiff wind could blow him over, which always struck me as odd for Tim Robbins, but I can see it for a little guy.

I thought Red was calle Red because he had red hair, making him Caucasian? I'm pretty sure I saw the film but don't remember it. I remember the novella, though, having read it as an impressionable tween. Stephen King has a fascination with rape.
Today feels like Thursday to me because tomorrow is the last day of the work week - Friday is Canada Day.

Hey there!
Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorites. I'll have to dig it out of my DVD archives and watch it again. Haven't managed to read the book yet, however. Thanks for listing the differences. :)

Hot and it appears the summer rainy season has commenced a week or so early. Usually it starts into the month of July, not before it. High humidity is inevitable as well as prolific mosquito reproduction. Ugh! =•{
