Wednesday

Sort of a topsy-turvy morning -- Mr. Nightdog had a business call at 7:30, and I fell back to sleep, then he woke me up when he left ... bzuh.

Mostly sunny and warm, supposed to be about 98 today and 100 tomorrow before settling back down and cooling off again. This morning there were robins, wrens, cardinals and chickadees in the backyard, along with someone new -- a hummingbird! Couldn't tell what kind it was; at first I thought it was a baby wren but then I saw its beak. It seemed to have a pretty distinctive white stripe down its back.

Have to go to grocery store today. All for now.

hello!

How exciting, with new visitors! It's gray and humid here, and I'm doing my best to stave off stir-craziness. Although it might not be working.

Off to feed Z her lunch!

Heh! Are you ready for school to start again, just to get out of the house? Are there any museums nearby you could take Z to, or would that be Asking For Trouble?

;-)

Yes, I am very ready for school to start again, not so much because it gets me out of the house (although that's great, too), but because I feel like I need a certain amount of time for being in my own head every day, and if I don't get that, I get irritable.

Sometimes Z is much more clingy than others, and when she's clingy, it's impossible to focus my attention on anything else--like this morning, she clings to my legs and tries to squeeze between my knees and the cupboard when I'm trying to wash dishes (a task which really doesn't take that long, but it's phenomenally frustrating when she won't go play on her own for a bit!). At least she usually brings us books when she wants attention, because she knows we'll stop and read with her. The last couple days her new thing is finding little bits of dirt and putting them in her mouth, then coming over and sticking out her tongue so we can see that she's eating something icky, and when we try to retrieve it, she giggles and runs. She loves the chasing. HEE--so I'm trying to chase her more often without the eating-dirt part.

ANYWAY. This is really a long-winded little rant, and a verbose way of saying that we're going to take her to the big-city zoo tomorrow (the Mr. took vacation, and one of my work-friends is coming, too), so that will be fun.

I think Z and Nadja must be related: they definitely have the same habits! :)
