So, my advice is, if at all possible, try to avoid catching pneumonia. Holy shit this is such a bitch.

In other news ... big thundershowers rolled through at about 1 this afternoon, bringing good rain and some high winds. Apparently a lot of folks around us and in the DFW area lost power, and a crane in downtown Dallas came loose and fell onto the roof of an adjacent building.

Currently reading Alice Munro's Runaway: Stories. It's been a long time since I've read any Munro, and these stories are just wonderful. I also bought the new nonfiction book Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee, by Casey Cep. There was a very good review of it in the NY Times, and it sounds really interesting.

How is the new antibiotic?

The side effects are MUCH more bearable (a few attacks of nausea, but it's not trying to crash my blood sugar like the levofloxacin did, and it lets me SLEEP).

On the other hand, I think it works slower than the levofloxacin. So it's a trade-off.

It does work slowly. I have had a solid week of it and only today noticed that my infected sinus suddenly feels nearly normal.Got three more days of pills, so I hope it does the trick.

I have four more days, but I'm willing to take more to get rid of this. What I've read, though, is that you keep coughing for a while even after the pneumonia is gone, and the fatigue apparently takes forever to go away. :-P

I find it hard to believe ANYONE survived this in pre-antibiotic days. I mean.

Pneumonia used to kill a lot of people and take months to recover from. The Mister had an endless coughing spell one time and our family doc said all the coughing had irritated a nerve that made the coughing worse. He got a big old shot of steroids and got better.

Beloved family doc also had a mixture she gave as an injection that included a steroid, B-12 and something else that would fix a person right up. I miss those days.
