Have you ever seen pieces of art done with heavier gold leaf, or actual hammered gold? It folds just like that.

Looking at the artist's other work he was definitely influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, but in a good way.

The painting you posted reminds me of the heaviest of the church statuary one sees in Europe, covered in gold looted from the Americas. The painting is brilliant on multiple levels.

My apologies for the double reply but I thought I would mention that it turns out I have seen several of the artist's works before, I merely didn't recognise the name. He evidently had a sense of humour!
