Blits and Blats
1) Stuck in one of those periodic cycles of ferocious hot flashes. :-(
2) But! In much better news, we saw a screech owl two nights ago! I could hear it calling, very softly, and I could tell it was close, so I said "Layla, wait just a minute," and started shining my little flashlight into the trees And there he was! Wee little guy, about the length of my hand (5 1/2 to 6 inches tall). He (she?) was reddish-grey and had a streaky chest. It owl-bobbed its head at us a couple of times and flew away on silent owl wings. :D
3) Almost finished with LaRose, by Louise Erdrich. If the ending holds up, it will be one of the best novels I've read this year -- the others are Samantha Hunt's Mr. Splitfoot and Kate Atkinson's A God in Ruins. It hasn't been a particularly good year for novels for me, so far (I've read a dozen and thought three were memorable).
4) People who use "lead" when they mean "led" should be banished from Twitter. This is like when paid became payed for a while, and it makes me grit my teeth.
5) This is some prime-gauge nightmare fuel. The permafrost is melting, so long-frozen anthrax spores wake up. Thirteen people hospitalized, 1,500 dead reindeer. The dystopian fics write themselves.
Five things, as I've heard, make a post.

4. People who use "sell" for "sale" and vice versa should be banished too. "I had three sells today!" and "I'll sale it to you for $20" are proverbial fingernails on the blackboard. No. Just. No.
Then again, I caught myself using "peak" for "peek" today, so I probably shouldn't judge too harshly... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
5. Yup. There was an anthrax outbreak in bison at Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta/NWT in 2015. It's only going to get worse. Plus, who knows what other nasty critters have been hibernating in the permafrost.

4. I KNOW RIGHT? And if it's not sale/sell or lead/led, it's through/threw or Calvary/cavalry. MAKE IT STOP. Heh, at least you didn't use "peak" for "pique"? Because I see that a lot, too. :D
5. It's a nightmare, and I imagine it's going to get worse before (if?) it gets better. Meanwhile, we're in genuine danger of electing a certifiable lunatic President. The mind reels. :-P

Yeah, that certifiable lunatic scares me more than any anthrax outbreak. We managed to oust our own homophobic, racist asshole leader, but he was nothing in comparison. I fear for you guys.
(re-posted to put in its appropriate thread. Sheesh, this is the second time I've done this. Wtf, brain?)

And I was like, A PERSON WHO WRITES FOR A LIVING CAN'T EVEN GET IT RIGHT. I thought about replying, "It's 'tenets,'" but I didn't want to be That Person. But I was appalled. :-P

I finished Life After Life on vacation, and have A God In Ruins on hold at the library. I'll have to check out LaRose, I do like Erdrich.
I heard about the anthrax. And the election. It's like someone traveled back in time to shoot dinosaurs and accidentally stepped on a butterfly.
