nightdog_barks: (Glass Full of Rain)

Stormy Tuesday

Calm and mostly sunny right now, but we had an exciting morning with thunder, lightning, rain blowing sideways, and some light hail. And it's supposed to do it all over again after midnight tonight.

Watched a tremendously silly movie last night -- Lucy -- that for all its silliness was actually (I thought) much better than the 6.4 score IMDB gives it. It's a Luc Besson film, and while it's not nearly as good as his The Fifth Element, it was good enough and fast-paced enough to draw me in. I especially liked the Egyptian actor Amr Waked as a French cop named Pierre Del Rio (what), and Min-Sik Choi as the Big Bad, Mr. Jang. Two thumbs up, would definitely watch again, even with its goofy storyline.

The Housefic that Blackmare and I are working on is up to three chapters. :-)

ETA that I almost forgot! Here's a very strange fish, caught off the deep waters of Newfoundland! No, seriously, look at this weird fish. :D

We are pretty sure three is where it stops, at least. :-D

Chimeras are awesome fish aren't they? I knew which order it belonged to immediately, but not the precise species. I'm not surprised that people find them shocking -- they're all deep water species, and rarely seen. They're cartilaginous, predating bony fishes and most closely related to sharks, though they diverged some 400 million years ago. My favourite species (that I've actually seen a specimen of) is the Rabbit fish, though the Latin name (Chimaera monstrosa) is much more evocative. Being able to identify it once earned me extra points on a vertebrate zoology exam. :D

Well they literally are mythic in terms of time, predating the dinosaurs, so I would have no problem ascribing them to an earlier legendary era in a fictional sense. :)

Ooh, yes, I remember seeing the trailer for Lucy and being intrigued. Mind you, I'd pretty much listen to Scarlett Johansson read the phone book, so I'm possibly biased. I've started keeping a 'must watch' list of films, so it's going on there :)
