*g* Actually I have read a few hockey RPFs, but the ones I read (and I can't remember whose they were -- they were linked through a meme) didn't have enough ... well, hockey in them. It's the same way with the soccer RPFs I've read. They almost always open after the game and go from there. I'd like to read something set during the game, with the adrenaline flowing and muscles burning and getting slammed into the boards and the crowd roaring and then some idiot throws a squid on the ice and you get to stop and catch your breath ...
... um. Not that I've really thought about it or anything. But do you have any recs? :D
OKAY. So there are a lot of fics with actual hockey in them and since I never took care to pay individual attention to them, it's difficult to remember which exactly they are /o\ But off the top of my head I can definitely recomment two, and they are:
(explicit, 43,000 words, Crosby/Toews) by antumbral - 2010 Winter Olympics fic about Team Canada. This is the fic that when I read it I thought, man, this is it, the ultimate hockey fic, the one that no matter if you've never watched a game or even know who any of these people are, you will love this story, and it will make you want to love the game. Some time has passed and perhaps I'm not as star struck as I was when I first read it, but I still think it's a breathtaking story, about Sidney Crosby, with the weight of an entire nation's hopes on his shoulders, during the two near-ethereal weeks of the Vancouver Olympics. The prose is gorgeous, and the intricate, action-packed detail in which the games were written had me on the edge of my seat, but most of all it was the characterization of Sidney and Toews and the - unique atmosphere of the Olympics, I guess, that did it for me. And Crosby/Tazer, oh man. I know you're probably thinking they would win awards for Most Intensest Relationship but really it was actually kind of relaxed! And intense. And fucking beautiful.
