For the longest time ever, I thought Christian Bale was American; therefore every time he opens his mouth and speaks in his real voice I am surprised.

ETA that holy hell, I could listen to Daniel Day-Lewis read the phone book. A big-city phone book.

IMDB says he was actually born in Wales. When he speaks in his natural voice I hear what sounds to me like a somewhat working-class English accent. It's sure as hell not Cumberbatch or Dominic West or Ben Whishaw. Or Hugh Laurie, for that matter. *g*

AFAIK he's one of those actors who stays resolutely in character when he's filming a movie and I think he keeps the accent of the movie when he's filming interviews for it, as well.

But I really came here to add that if you have the same puerile childish sense of humour that I have, you will enjoy this dance remix of a meltdown he had on set a few years ago. Srsly.
