2012 Year-End Fic Roundup

2012 year-end fic roundup. Previous years' fic roundups are located here.

Patient X
Posted 2/25/12
Comment!fic, 383 words. Written in response to the [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson topic, 'Come up with your worst endings for House'.

Favorite line: This isn't PPTH. This isn't even a hospital.

Bodhisattva, Would You Take Me By the Hand
Posted 4/27/12
AU, but only slightly, 3,181 words with a significant contribution from [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry. The first few lines came to me out of the blue, and all the rest followed. Short version: Wilson's got a boyfriend, and House doesn't like him. What could possibly go wrong? Or rather, what goes right?

Favorite line: "I'm just sleeping with him, House, I'm not going to marry him," Wilson said.

Bonfire
Posted 5/11/12
Speculative fic, 1,412 words
So by this time as House fans we were all pretty much aware Bad Things were coming. This story was partially based on a promo/sneak peek for episode 8.21, "Holding On."

Favorite line: House drops the cup. Miraculously, it doesn't shatter, but coffee does go all over the carpet and House's shoes.

"You bastard," House says.

The Word for World Is Mountain
Posted 5/18/12
Another speculative fic, this one partly based on a promo/sneak peek for episode 8.22, "Everybody Dies." 1,026 words

Favorite line: He hopes a lot of things, most of them small but some of them big.

To Have and to Hold
Posted 5/22/12
Post-series, 2,030 words
Fluffy and sappy, but I couldn't not write it. House and Wilson are on the road, but something's lacking. House has a solution, whether Wilson likes it or not.

Favorite line: "It's a long story," House said.

"Mm-hmm," Caroline said. "It usually is."

Wish You Were Here
Posted 5/24/12
Post-series, 708 words
Not happy, not fluffy. House finds something among Wilson's belongings and ponders what to make of it all.

Favorite line: I like all the lines in this story.

A River Out of Eden
Posted 6/1/12
Post-series, 5,507 words, co-written with [personal profile] blackmare. Foundation story for the Riververse.
When we were writing this, we called it simply "the miracle thing" because the title hadn't come to us yet. The science behind it is real, though.

Favorite line: "Normally I'd say to hide the pills in a yummy treat, but I don't think that'll be necessary here."

Changing Pastures
Posted 6/7/12
Post-series, Riververse, 1,884 words
A view from an outsider of some of the events that took place in A River Out of Eden. Dr. Jefferson knows a good story when he hears one, but this is something he can never share.

Favorite line: The little motel room hasn't changed much in the couple of days since he's been here -- if it weren't for the open saddlebags on the dresser and the helmets perched on the desk, he'd say it seems like any other temporary space, someplace where people stop and rest on the way to somewhere else.

Come Around Again to Find
Posted 9/21/12
Post-series, Riververse, 3,169 words co-written with [personal profile] third_owl
An unscheduled stop in Barstow, California, makes House unaccountably nervous.

Favorite line: As it turns out, "Brian sent me" is apparently the secret code for "All we have left are Ford Tauruses, painted an appealingly vomitous factory green."

Will It Go Round in Circles
Posted 9/24/12
Post-series, Riververse, 2,409 words with a significant contribution from [personal profile] third_owl
It's the middle of an ordinary day and Wilson's doing ordinary things when he runs into a friend from his past life at PPTH.

Favorite line: They've got it down to an art, the packing, the leaving.

American Gothic, Part One
American Gothic, Part Two
Posted 10/11/12 and 10/12/12
Post-series, Riververse, total of 11,165 words co-written with [personal profile] third_owl and [personal profile] pwcorgigirl
My original plotbunny for this story was that it was going to be funny, sort of slapstick, sort of sweet, with things going bump in the night. Kind of like a remake of Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Yeah, no.

Favorite line: Too many to pick from, and truthfully I like all the lines in this fic.

O Little Star of Wash-and-Go
Posted 12/24/12
Post-series, Riververse, 1,633 words
You never know who you'll meet on Christmas Eve.

Favorite line: "I'm not from around here," he says. Like that explains everything.
