Saturday Evening

1) Cold, overcast, and very windy today.

2) Had a small glass of sparkling wine with Thanksgiving dinner. It was from (of all places) New Mexico, but it was very nice. Tasty and cheap reasonably priced. *g*

3) Made this recipe for applesauce-spice cake yesterday. Substituted rum-soaked raisins for the walnuts and did not make the frosting. It was still delicious!

4) This sounds SO AWESOME. (It's the daily Audubon Page-Turning at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.)

There. Four things make a post. :-D

I heard (at Trader Joe's, where I stopped between work and home) that we're about to get a thick blanket of snow, beginning early tomorrow morning. Am currently sticking head in sand LALALALALAAAAA can't heaaaar yooouuu.

But I'd been kind of surprised, when I walked out of work tonight, that it wasn't snowing already. Fine mist of rain, very cold. Not really a shock what's coming, I guess. Not looking forward to driving in it in the morning.

For now, I am tired and want to goof off but need to do some other stuff so tomorrow goes a bit more smoothly.

ETA that the Audubon book? Is amazing. I had no idea it was so HUGE. Wow.

ETA the Second: according to KARE 11, the 6" snowfall I heard about at TJ's is not to be; "only light accumulations," says the news site. I hope they are correct, because I haven't remembered to buy a shovel yet to keep in my car.

So glad you can have at least some wine.
For your entertainment, an excerpt from my family's latest dinner conversation:
son (age 9): mom, you put beer in the meat sauce.
twin: why not wine?
me: we don't have any. We're in Germany, we buy beer.
son (sniffing): it smells like beer.
twin {sniffing): it does, a lot.
me (rolling eyes): ok, I'll buy wine tomorrow.
twin: I didn't say I didn't like it.
son (says nothing, busy collecting the sauce with bread until the dish shines).
damigella: (I like you)

I'm an ex-Catholic atheist, and I find the Shabbat blessing fascinating, probably because of its key role in Catholic religion.

I've seen a live one very rarely, once in Italian and Hebrew (my friend is orthodox and very carefully kosher), once in English and Hebrew (nonreligious Israeli frends living in the US, who keep fiercely connected to their cultural heritage) and once in English (many years ago in a family where the mother is an American Jew, wearing the kippah and chanting; the father's a German protestant who sat in silent respect - he has converted since, and the sons were raised Jewish from the start).

Next Friday evening (as we drive for a weekend visit to my beloved MIL) I'll be thinking of you finally looking forward to a proper Shabbat blessing and I will be even happier.
